By leveraging the expertise of the Children’s Specialized Hospital Autism Center of Excellence, the program aims to expand access to innovative and compassionate care, empowering children diagnosed with autism to thrive. Join Us as our Controller!
The Controller will serve as the lead accounting professional for the organization and will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations while maintaining accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls.
The Controller will manage the monthly close process, support budgeting and financial analysis, and ensure that the organization’s financial data accurately reflects operational performance.
What You'll Do
- Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
- Manage the general ledger, month-end close, and preparation of monthly financial statements.
- Perform and review account reconciliations, including bank, credit card, payroll, and balance sheet accounts.
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare management reporting packages and financial analyses for leadership.
Accounts Receivable Oversight
- Ensure accurate recording of revenue, contractual adjustments, and patient responsibility balances.
- Monitor and analyze accounts receivable performance, including aging reports, collections metrics, and payer trends.
- Reconcile billing system reports (e.g., CentralReach) to the general ledger to ensure revenue and AR balances are accurate.
- Identify and investigate discrepancies between billing, collections, and accounting records.
- Develop and maintain AR dashboards and reporting for leadership
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Assist with the development and monitoring of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Analyze financial performance and provide insights to senior management.
- Assist in the implementation of a budget software
Fixed Assets & Lease Accounting
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register, including tracking additions, disposals, and depreciation.
- Record and monitor capital expenditures and ensure proper capitalization in accordance with accounting policies.
- Reconcile fixed asset balances to the general ledger and prepare periodic roll-forward schedules.
- Track and account for operating and finance leases, including maintaining lease schedules and recording monthly lease entries.
- Support compliance with lease accounting standards (ASC 842) by maintaining right-of-use asset and lease liability reconciliations.
- Prepare reporting related to fixed assets and lease obligations for management and external accountants.
- Support the implementation of fixed asset and lease modules
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows between accounting, billing, and operations.
- Ensure accurate documentation and audit trails for financial transactions.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in healthcare or ABA services.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience working with medical billing systems and insurance reimbursement processes.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation
- Experience with CentralReach or similar healthcare practice management platforms.
- Experience working in multi-location healthcare or therapy practices.
Work Location & Hours:
This is a full-time position in a hybrid work setting in our Kearny, NJ office. The core hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm.

Reasonable Pay Estimate
A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $150,000.00 to $175,000.00 per year. There are numerous factors taken into consideration in determining the actual offered rate of pay, including but not limited to: job-related qualifications, experience, skills, education, geographic location, and consideration of internal and experience equity.
