About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Technical Leader to join our Compartments and Accounts Platform (CAP) team at Stripe. This team serves as the backbone for all merchant and connection information, handling all API traffic and ensuring the platform's robustness, scalability, and high performance. The ideal candidate will be responsible for shaping the long-term technical strategy, designing scalable systems, and leading critical projects that support Stripe’s growth trajectory. You will work closely with cross-functional teams—including product, design, infrastructure, and operations—to develop innovative solutions that enhance our platform's capabilities and reliability. As a key leader, you will mentor engineering talent, uphold engineering standards, and drive initiatives that deliver tangible value to our customers and the broader Stripe ecosystem.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in building, operating, and evolving large-scale, high-performance APIs and distributed systems
- Deep expertise in distributed computing and microservices architecture
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Ruby, or related technologies
- Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and coaching engineering teams
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and technical decision-making skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
- Empathetic, user-first mindset with a focus on delivering scalable and lasting solutions
- Experience designing and building distributed systems or microservices architectures
- Ability to balance speed, scope, and complexity to meet user and business needs

- Develop and articulate a long-term technical vision for the organization, identifying incremental value delivery pathways
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and high-performance services and systems
- Make significant hands-on contributions to critical projects, ensuring timely delivery and customer impact
- Lead by example to uphold high engineering standards, fostering a culture of quality and efficiency
- Collaborate with stakeholders across product, design, infrastructure, and operations teams to align technical initiatives with business goals
- Mentor and coach both individual contributors and managerial staff, cultivating the next generation of engineering leaders
- Drive architectural decisions that support Stripe’s growth and evolving product ecosystem
- Proactively seek feedback from users, teammates, and subject matter experts to improve platform capabilities
