Job Description
The key responsibilities of the Assistant Controller are:
- Support the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
- Prepare balance sheet and P&L schedules and assist with financial statement analysis
- Perform account reconciliations and investigate variances
- Review journal entries for accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation
- Assist in overseeing general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions
- Handle day-to-day accounting activities, including invoice approvals, vendor coding, and reconciliations
- Monitor invoicing and collections to ensure accuracy and timeliness of revenue
- Support external audits by maintaining documentation and ensuring audit readiness
- Help develop, improve, and maintain accounting procedures and internal controls
- Contribute to system and process improvements, as well as ad hoc projects

The Successful Applicant
The Successful Assistant Controller Has
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, with CPA preferred
- 3+ years of accounting experience, ideally within a retail or similar fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting
- Proficiency in Excel and experience with accounting systems and tools (e.g., Concur)
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Experience supporting audits and maintaining proper documentation
- Strong organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and efficiency
- Proactive mindset with an interest in improving processes and internal controls
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams
