The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) is seeking a Programs Associate to join our Programs Team. The Programs Associate will report directly to the Vice President of Programs and Community Engagement and will collaborate with members of the Programs Team to realize the organization's strategic vision. The Programs Associate will be primarily tasked with the day-to-day planning and execution of APAICS’ programs, specifically the fellowship and internship programs, leadership academies, and a cultural student exchange program with Japan. The Programs Associate will engage with congressional offices, college and high school students, elected officials, working professionals, APAICS alumni, community partners, and office colleagues. The Programs Associate must exercise independence and sound judgment but will not be expected to make critical decisions without guidance and support. The Programs Associate is an early career position intended to help develop professional skills over time.


ABOUT APAICS

APAICS is a national, non-partisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander participation and representation at all levels of the political process from community service to elected office. APAICS programs focus on developing leadership, building public policy knowledge, and filling the political pipeline for Asian Americans and Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders to pursue public office at the local, state, and federal levels.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the planning, development, and implementation of APAICS programs and events.
  • Coordinate logistics for virtual and in-person events, workshops, and leadership training programs.
  • Assist with program outreach including recruitment of participants and candidates through national, regional, and local community outreach.
  • Collaborate with the communications team on traditional and social media strategies to promote programs.
  • Coordinate and support a growing network of APAICS program alumni.
  • Work with the Vice President of Programs and Community Engagement on budget maintenance and financial tracking.
  • Draft grant reports and requests pertaining to programs.
  • Assist with program assessment, evaluation, and data collection.
  • Administrative responsibilities such as maintaining expense requests, travel booking, catering, and event space reservations.
  • Organizing a general email inbox and being able to extract relevant information to inform senior staff’s decision-making process.
  • Other duties as assigned.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Ability and willingness to travel and periodically work weekends and evenings.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Knowledge of media strategy, marketing, and promotion.
  • Previous campaign and/or congressional experience.


COMPENSATION

  • The salary is $50,000 - $62,000, and benefits include healthcare, 21 days of vacation, access to a 401(k) plan after 90 days of employment, all federal holidays off, Christmas through New Year’s off, and transit benefits.
  • This full-time opportunity is located in Washington, D.C.
