Tesla is seeking an innovative Structural Design Engineer with strong expertise in designing structural and seismic building systems to join our dynamic North America Infrastructure team in Los Angeles. This role emphasizes forward-thinking structural design, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on implementation. You will be responsible for delivering scalable, code-compliant, and constructable solutions that support Tesla’s fast-paced R&D for Autopilot, Energy, Vehicle, Solar, AI, Optimus, and Cell Manufacturing where no week looks the same. You will help design and deploy mechanical systems that directly enable innovation while advancing Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
What You'll Do
Coordinate structural design on multidiscipline project teams including Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Piping/Plumbing (MEP) professionalsConduct structural analysis and design of concrete, steel, wood, masonry and different type of structural systems for lateral and gravity forces, along with the creation of justifying structural calculationsMake technical assumptions, think independently to complete assigned work, and draw conclusions based on engineering judgementPresent 30% 60% 90% design reviews to stakeholders and multi-discipline teamsComplete field work independently or with the design teamProvide planning estimates with limited scoping informationManage structural projects from estimating through construction
What You'll Bring
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or the equivalent in experience, and minimum 5-7 years of experience with structural design and engineeringKnowledge of software such as ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, RISA 3D, RAM Structural System, BIM/CAD modeling tools (Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD)Advanced level understanding of California and International Building Codes and structural design standards (IBC, ACI, AISC ASCE)Advanced proficiency in structural design with various materials such as steel, concrete, Unistrut, cold-form steel, steel welding and reinforcement details of concreteProficiency in lateral (seismic/wind) and foundation design and related code requirement and design considering constructability and construction sequence for fabrication/installation and developing structural plans, details and supporting calculations for Permit and Construction packages including responding to Plan CheckExperience in structural design of buildings for high-tech infrastructure, industrial, or operational facilities (automobile manufacturing, semiconductor, solar, battery, etc.) Willingness to travel to support infrastructure development in California and throughout North America (travel up to 20%)Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred – preference for CA, CO, NV, TX or open to reciprocity

Expected Compensation
$91,200 - $228,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
