About The Role
At Balfour Beatty, we're delivering some of the UK's most significant power transmission and infrastructure projects, and we're looking for a
Development Project Engineer to join our growing team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious engineer who is ready to take the next step in their career, gaining exposure to larger, more complex projects while developing the technical, commercial and leadership skills required to progress into senior engineering and project management positions.
As a Development Project Engineer, you'll play a key role in the successful delivery of major infrastructure works, supporting projects through every stage of the lifecycle from planning and design through to construction, commissioning and final handover. Working closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers and multidisciplinary delivery teams, you'll be responsible for developing engineering solutions, coordinating site activities, managing risks, ensuring compliance and driving safe, efficient project delivery.
The role offers the opportunity to take on increasing levels of responsibility, lead elements of project delivery, mentor junior engineers and contribute to critical decisions that directly impact programme, cost, quality and safety performance. What you'll be doing
- Supporting the delivery of complex engineering and construction works, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time and within budget.
- Developing and implementing engineering solutions to support successful project delivery.
- Coordinating and supervising site activities, subcontractors, plant, labour and materials.
- Reviewing and interpreting technical drawings, specifications and design information to ensure works are delivered in accordance with project requirements.
- Preparing and maintaining project documentation, records, reports, site diaries, RAMS and other key delivery information.
- Monitoring project performance against programme, cost, quality and safety objectives, identifying risks and implementing mitigation measures where required.
- Managing subcontractors and supply chain partners to ensure contractual, operational and performance requirements are achieved.
- Supporting procurement activities and ensuring resources, materials and equipment are available to meet project delivery schedules.
- Promoting a strong safety culture, undertaking audits, inspections, investigations and safety initiatives to support our commitment to Zero Harm.
- Engaging with clients, stakeholders and project teams to maintain effective communication and build positive working relationships.
- Contributing to project reviews, risk workshops and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project performance and delivery outcomes.
- Providing guidance and support to Assistant Engineers, Graduate Engineers and other developing members of the team.
- Taking ownership of specific work packages and progressively developing the capability to lead larger elements of project delivery independently.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for an ambitious engineer who is ready to build on their existing project delivery experience and take the next step in their career. You'll be confident working within multidisciplinary teams, passionate about delivering high-quality engineering solutions and eager to develop into a future engineering or project management leader.
You'll Ideally Have
- Experience working as a Project Engineer, Site Engineer, Section Engineer or similar within infrastructure, power, utilities or construction.
- A good understanding of project delivery, engineering processes and construction methodologies.
- Experience coordinating site activities, subcontractors and project resources.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive approach to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
- HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in an Engineering discipline.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
