Job Summary:
The Senior Director –Accounting collaborates with the Associate CFO-Financial Reporting and Accounting to direct and manage UMMC’s accounting operations to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and accounting principles.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field and ten (10) years of experience with five (5) years of accounting and/or financial leadership experience. Healthcare accounting or finance experience preferred.
Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong technical skills in general ledger accounting and financial reporting. Supervisory skills to include organizing workflow and delegating authority. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to communicate clearly, accurately and professionally (both written and verbal). Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Superior organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to work accurately and calmly under pressure while meeting deadlines. Must exhibit and promote a high level of integrity, customer service, collaboration and friendliness towards all team members and colleagues.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit, hire and manage team members that build upon the strong culture, core values, and working relationships of UMMC.
- Serve as a leader who emphasizes a focus on continuous quality improvement.
- Knowledge of accounting standards applicable to assigned work area including research and updating of policies and procedures.
- Evaluate impact of new accounting standards and lead efforts for timely adoption.
- Direct and lead all accounting functions for assigned work areas include month-end close and monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts.
- Guide the preparation and issuance of internal and external reports on a timely basis.
- Collaborate with the Associate CFO – Financial Reporting and Accounting to prepare and monitor the annual departmental budget.
- Safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure compliance with all relevant State, Federal and other regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Work directly with external audit, tax and accounting firms to ensure timely and accurate reporting and filings.
- In collaboration with the Associate CFO – Financial Reporting and Accounting, evaluate, select, implement and oversee key enterprise systems for accounting.
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
