About us
The Science Museum Group (SMG) archive and library collection contains around 7 million items and is of outstanding national and international significance. This is an exciting time for SMG's Archives and Libraries with our new strategy setting out how our collections will be the best in the world in our fields. We are committed to documenting our collections, making them available to more people than ever before and transforming customer service.
To fulfil our ambitions to catalogue our archive collections we are now recruiting for an Archive Cataloguer on a permanent contract based at the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford. This is a full-time role, working 35 hours per week.
About the role
This role will concentrate on cataloguing our archives, working closely with curatorial teams to prioritise work in line with each museum's plans. The focus and much of the work will be on box listing or creating collection level descriptions for the entirety of the archives, with regular time spent on detailed cataloguing of prioritised archives.
You will be managed by the Curatorial team at the National Science and Media Museum but will also work closely with the Group Archives Manager to ensure consistency and to meet KPIs. While most of the time will be spent on cataloguing activity, cataloguers will sometimes be expected to support access to researchers by assisting with enquiries, contributing to promotional activities, and providing cover for reading room supervision.
About you
Joining us, you will have relevant experience with Archives or Records Management and experience handling, storing and documenting archive collections. You will be able to embrace our commitment to making archive collections accessible to diverse audiences.
Crucially, you will be organised with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively with the ability to complete tasks with accuracy and a good level of attention to detail. You will also be an effective communicator, able to communicate confidently to a variety of internal and external stakeholders and provide good customer service.
