We are seeking a Research Engineer to join an applied research project focused on the development of an embodied AI robotic system for urban infrastructure inspection and maintenance. The project involves the design, integration, and validation of robotic mechanisms, sensing systems, and automated workflows for outdoor infrastructure maintenance applications.The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary research team and industry partners to investigate, prototype, test, and implement practical robotic solutions that can operate in real-world environments and support more efficient, safe, and scalable infrastructure maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and integrate customised mechanical mechanisms for robotic systems, including robotic end-effectors, grippers, tool-changing interfaces, material handling systems, and task-specific automation modules.
• Develop 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical documentation using SolidWorks.
• Perform mechanical design analysis and engineering calculations, including load estimation, actuator sizing, structural integrity, tolerance analysis, and vibration/shock mitigation.
• Ensure mechanical designs are compatible with robotic arms, mobile platforms, sensors, and mechatronic systems, considering payload, reachability, safety, manufacturability, and maintainability.
• Build, assemble, and commission mechanical prototypes and experimental robotic systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong hands-on experience in mechanical design, prototyping, fabrication, and system integration.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modelling, assembly design, and engineering documentation.
• Good understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering analysis.
• Experience working with robotic systems, sensors, actuators, or mechatronic systems is advantageous.

Technical Leadership & Strategy

• Set technical direction for CPIE initiatives in UE_ROW, quality indices, Frontend–PTS integration, and high‑value bits (PG2+) yield, aligned to business priorities and technology roadmaps.
• Architect new data solutions, methodologies, and frameworks to:
• Identify and prioritize yield, quality, and reliability improvement opportunities across process, test, and design
• Model, monitor, and benchmark tool performance and process capability at scale

• Enable equipment prognostics and advanced process integration optimization

• Define test and screening optimization strategies that materially improve product grade yield without quality escape

• Drive end‑to‑end problem solving on complex, cross‑module issues that cannot be addressed within a single function or site.

Cross‑Functional & Organizational Influence

• Partner deeply with Process & Equipment Engineering, Manufacturing (MFG), Product Integration Engineering (PIE), and Data Science (DS) teams to:

• Establish feasibility and technical soundness

• Quantify business impact

• Rapidly prototype and mature solutions

• Act as a technical integrator across Global Quality (GQ), Product Engineering (PE), Central PEE (CPEE), Smart Manufacturing AI (SMAI), Technology Development (TD), and suppliers, ensuring solutions are scalable, manufacturable, and production‑ready.

• Influence technical and strategic decisions beyond direct ownership, including across sites, nodes, and organizations.

Execution, Scale, and BKM Deployment

• Lead the development, validation, and global deployment of BKMs, ensuring sustained performance and learning‑rate acceleration.

• Balance long‑term architectural thinking with near‑term execution, driving measurable improvements in yield, quality, and cycle time.

• Anticipate risks and tradeoffs (technical, schedule, cost, quality) and provide clear decision frameworks for leadership and stakeholders.

  Requirements & Technical Competency

  • PhD, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.

  • 8+ years of semiconductor industry experience, with deep exposure to product integration, process engineering, test solutions, product engineering, or circuit design.

  • Recognized depth in semiconductor manufacturing processes, equipment, and control systems.

  • Strong proficiency in data analysis and modeling tools (e.g., Y3, JMP, Python).

  • Demonstrated application of statistical methods and/or machine learning to real manufacturing problems.

  • Proven track record of technical leadership, decision‑making, multi‑tasking, and root‑cause resolution on ambiguous problems.

• Contract: 1 year renewable/ convertible

Job Descriptions:

• Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, preventive servicing, installation, upgrading, and technical support works for the Card Access System

• Carry out troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and rectification of system issues, including the replacement of defective hardware components and devices where necessary

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) works to ensure the system operates efficiently and reliably.

• Attend to breakdowns, service calls, and technical issues promptly to minimize system downtime and ensure continuous operation of the Card Access System

• Perform additional installation, upgrading, testing, and commissioning works for Additions & Alterations (A&A) projects as and when required

• Assist in system configuration, basic programming, and verification testing to ensure proper integration and functionality of newly installed or replaced equipment

• Maintain proper service documentation, maintenance records, and reports for all maintenance and installation activities carried out

• Observe and comply with all workplace safety requirements, operational procedures, and company guidelines while carrying out duties on-site

Job Requirements:

• NITEC / Higher NITEC / Diploma in Electrical, Electronics or related disciplines

Job Responsibilities:

• Plan, execute, monitor, and control all technical aspects of projects.
• Lead or contribute to new system/network infrastructure setups or upgrades.
