Job Description
Assessment and Evaluation
· Assist in conducting speech and language evaluations under supervision.
· Collect and document case history and background information from families and caregivers.
· Use informal and formal assessment tools to identify communication needs.
Intervention and Therapy
· Implement individualized speech and language therapy plans designed by senior therapists.
· Facilitate sessions focusing on speech production, language comprehension, and social communication.
· Support the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods, as needed.
· Monitor and document progress to inform treatment adjustments.
Family and Caregiver Engagement
· Collaborate with families to demonstrate strategies for improving communication at home.
· Provide feedback on therapy progress and encourage family participation.
Team Collaboration
· Work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Social Workers, and educators.
· Attend team meetings to discuss client progress and coordinate services.
· Seek guidance and mentorship from senior therapists and team members.
Program Support and Development
· Assist in the preparation of materials and resources for therapy sessions.
· Participate in group sessions or workshops aimed at enhancing social communication skills.
· Contribute ideas to improve therapy approaches or group interventions.
Documentation and Reporting
· Maintain accurate and timely records of therapy sessions, assessments, and client progress.
· Contribute to reports for internal use and family communication.
Professional Development
· Engage in training and learning opportunities provided by the organisation.
· Stay informed on evidence-based practices and developments in ASD intervention.
· Actively seek feedback to refine skills and grow professionally.
Job Requirement
· Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, or a related field.
· Eligible for registration with AHPC
· Foundational knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders and related communication challenges.
· Basic understanding of AAC tools and techniques.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Patience, empathy, and a desire to work with individuals with special needs.
· Willingness to learn and adapt to feedback.
· Previous experience (internships or practicum) working with individuals with ASD is a plus but not required.
