Role Purpose
NESST’s mandate extends beyond the delivery of its own programmes to shaping the wellbeing of migrant workers and influencing the practices of the wider industry. The Partnership & Sponsorship Lead advances that mandate by building the coalition of partners that resources NESST’s work and extends its reach —including to organisations whose primary focus lies beyond the migrant worker sector.
The role owns the sponsorship lifecycle end to end — originating, designing, soliciting, securing and stewarding inbound and outbound arrangements — and does so within the governance and segregation-of-duties controls of the NESST Sponsorship Management Framework. The postholder is the “Requestor” under that Framework and works closely with Finance, who holds custody of all sponsorship moneys.
Key Responsibilities
1. Partnership development and outreach
• Identify, cultivate and convene partners aligned to NESST’s mandate, including like-minded organisations beyond the migrant worker sector.
• Build coalitions that mainstream NESST’s objectives and cultivate shared ownership of the cause across a wider community.
• Develop and maintain a pipeline of inbound and outbound sponsorship and partnership opportunities.
2. Sponsorship origination and design
• Initiate and design sponsorship arrangements linked to clear programme outcomes, defining what NESST requires and what the Sponsor receives in return.
• Value in-kind support at prevailing market rates and apply the proportionality test, ensuring benefits conferred do not exceed the agreed ceiling relative to contribution.
• Set measurable KPIs and delivery milestones for each arrangement.
3. Solicitation, selection and due diligence
• Run open, even-handed solicitation; compare candidate sponsors and document the selection rationale.
• Conduct due diligence proportionate to risk — registry and adverse-media checks for all, and full due diligence for high-risk arrangements.
• Screen for red flags and conflicts of interest; declare and recuse where conflicted, in line with the Framework.
4. Approval and contracting
• Prepare approval submissions and secure the required approval before committing to or soliciting any arrangement.
• Draft and negotiate Sponsorship Agreements, clearing them through Finance and the Head, Business & Partnership before signature.
5. Delivery, monitoring and reporting
• Monitor both the Sponsor’s and NESST’s obligations against each Agreement; manage delivery, KPIs and remediation of any shortfall.
• Coordinate acceptance of sponsored goods and services with the appointed Acceptance Officer.
• Lead After-Action Reviews for medium- and high-risk arrangements and maintain complete records for audit.
6. Governance and integrity
• Operate within the Sponsorship Management Framework at all times, upholding its principles of independence, proportionality, and the treatment of sponsorship moneys as held on trust.
• Maintain segregation of duties: the postholder does not receive, bank or reconcile sponsorship moneys — custody sits with Finance. This separation is a core control of the role, not an administrative detail.
• Report any gift or out-of-process approach from a sponsor in accordance with NESST policy.
Requirements
Qualifications and experience
• A relevant degree, with minimum 2 years in partnerships, business development, fundraising, sponsorship or corporate relations.
• A track record of originating, negotiating and closing partnership or sponsorship arrangements.
• Familiarity with governance, compliance or controls in a public-interest, government-linked or regulated environment (desirable).
Skills and attributes
• Strong negotiation, stakeholder management and relationship-building skills across corporate, non-profit and government partners.
• Clear, persuasive written communication — able to prepare approval submissions and agreements to a governance standard.
• Sound judgement and personal integrity, with comfort operating inside a controlled, audited process.
• Organised and self-directed, able to run multiple arrangements end to end within a lean team.
