Position Overview
The Sessional Lecturer within the School of Business and Entrepreneurship is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning across undergraduate, and postgraduate programs. This includes supporting units across key business disciplines, including Human Resource Management, Logistics, Marketing, Management, and Finance.
The role involves the preparation and delivery of course materials, collaboration with Unit Coordinators, contribution to student development, and provision of academic and administrative support. The Sessional Lecturer is also expected to demonstrate academic leadership and maintain currency in their discipline and professional practice.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching and Learning
• Deliver high-quality face-to-face teaching and learning activities for undergraduate and postgraduate units.
• Facilitate student learning and engagement through effective teaching practices and classroom management.
• Assess and mark student assessments, including coursework and examinations, in accordance with approved marking guidelines and timelines.
• Work collaboratively with Unit Coordinators at Curtin University to ensure effective delivery of unit teaching and learning activities.
• Adhere to established academic standards, policies, and procedures relating to teaching, assessment, and student learning.
• Use approved learning materials and resources to support teaching and learning activities.
• Maintain up-to-date pedagogical knowledge and teaching practices to support effective student learning.
2. Student Engagement and Support
• Support student learning by responding to individual learning needs and providing appropriate academic guidance aligned with intended learning outcomes.
• Provide academic consultation session to students in need.
• Respond to student academic enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
3. Others
• Comply with Curtin University and Curtin Singapore policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
• Demonstrate professional conduct consistent with the Curtin Singapore Code of Conduct and Vision, Mission and Values.
• Provide support for academic-related activities, where required, and contribute to a collegiality academic environment.
• Attend relevant meeting, briefings or professional development workshops for effective delivery of teaching responsibilities.
• Undertake other duties appropriate to the sessional role, as assigned by the Head of School – School of Business and Entrepreneurship.
Selection Criteria
Essential
• A Doctoral degree (or equivalent) in the respective subject area.
• Those with master’s degree qualifications will be considered if they have substantial teaching/lecturing experience at the tertiary level.
• Demonstrated evidence of scholarly activity and/or continuous engagement with their profession.
• A record of successful classroom teaching/lecturing at the tertiary level, or relevant industry experience/expertise (or equivalent).
• Proven experience in working with people from diverse cultures.
• Ability to work as a member of a team and to meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
