Position overview

The System Engineer is responsible for end-to-end system-level quality, integrating cross-functional components, and ensuring efficient issue resolution and continuous system improvement. This role bridges triage, development, and validation, evolving from issue handling to system ownership and optimization.

Role responsibilities

• System-Level Ownership

  • Own system behavior across modules (perception, planning, control, etc.)

  • Understand and manage cross-component dependencies and interfaces

• Advanced Triage & Root Cause Analysis

  • Lead complex issue investigations beyond surface-level triage

  • Drive root cause analysis across software, data, and system interactions

  • Ensure high-quality and timely resolution of critical issues

• Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Act as the central point between engineering, testing, and operations teams

  • Align priorities and drive resolution across multiple stakeholders

• System Quality & Process Improvement

  • Identify systemic issues and recurring patterns

  • Improve triage workflows, feedback loops, and system robustness

  • Propose and implement scalable solutions (not just case-by-case fixes)

• Data-Driven Decision Making

  • Use logs, metrics, and field data to diagnose issues and guide improvements

  • Define KPIs for system performance and triage efficiency

• Technical Leadership (Emerging)

  • Influence system design decisions based on real-world issues

  • Contribute to architecture discussions and quality strategy

Required experience

• Strong system thinking and ability to understand complex, integrated systems

• Experience in debugging, triage, or system integration (AV or similar complex systems preferred)

• Ability to work across teams and drive alignment

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Familiarity with logs analysis, data pipelines, and debugging tools

Role responsibilities

• Be part of the team to architect and bring up the new service infrastructure for autonomous prime mover (APM) business.

• Architect and develop large scale IoT system to track live operation data for fleet management to support live fleet operations and monitoring.

• Provide best data model and services for global route optimization, live monitoring, live map update, vehicle configuration, vehicle maintenance.

• Architect and develop other internal serivces to facilating R& D process.

• Bring up universal auth integration and best security practice.

• Provide common client SDK for backend services.

Required experience

• Bachelor’s or master's degree in computer science or related relevant field.

• 5+ years' experience in backend implementation.

• Experience with RESTful API framework in Python, Java, or Golang.

• Experience with high performance backend implementation, profiling, and monitoring.

• Experience with data modeling with relational database and NoSQL database.

• Experience with docker, K8s or other containerization techniques.

• Experienced with cloud services.

• Experience with proper CI/CD setup.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Algorithm Development: Support the development of route optimization andmotion planning algorithms (graph search, sampling, or optimization-basedmethods) based on designs provided by the research team.

• Software Development: Writeclean, maintainable, and efficient C++ code to integrate planning modules intothe core autonomy stack.

• Simulation & Validation:Own the end-to-end testing of planning stacks in simulation. You will beresponsible for identifying "corner cases," debugging planningfailures, and ensuring trajectory smoothness.

• Performance Optimization:Assist in profiling and optimizing existing algorithms to ensure they meetreal-time constraints and operate efficiently on embedded hardware.

• Field Testing & Analysis:Participate in real-world vehicle testing. Analyze logs and telemetry data totroubleshoot behavior inconsistencies and improve system reliability.

• Cross-Functional Support:Collaborate with the Perception and Control teams to ensure seamless data flowand coordinate transform accuracy across the stack.

Required experience

• Educational Background: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in ComputerScience, Robotics, Engineering, or a related field. A strong academicfoundation in path planning or autonomous systems is required.

• Programming Proficiency: Solid proficiency in Modern C++. Familiaritywith Python for scripting and data analysis is a plus.

• Robotics Fundamentals: Good understanding of standard planningalgorithms (e.g., A*, RRT*, Frenet frames, or Lattice planners) and basickinematics.

• Hands-on Tools: Experience with Linux (Ubuntu) and ROS/ROS2 isessential.

• Growth Mindset: A proactive "tinkerer" attitude with theability to learn complex new frameworks quickly and a desire to solve"hard" robotics problems.
