Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end design processes, from user research and ideation to wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity UI design

Job Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Industrial design or UI/UX design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design thinking

We are seeking a motivated Research Engineer to join our team at a newly established Research Centre in Animal Feed, a facility dedicated to aquaculture and animal feed research, production, and capability development. The role is responsible for the reliable, safe, and efficient execution of feed research and production activities, and serves as a key enabler of service delivery, project execution, and capability transfer for the Centre.

You will support the day-to-day running of feed production, testing, and development activities, while developing an end-to-end understanding of feed production, from formulation through to finished feed. This role is ideal for an engineer eager to gain hands-on experience in applied feed science and to help build operational excellence within a growing research environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Feed Mill Operations

• • Ensure the uninterrupted and efficient operation of the feed mill.

Innovation-as-a-Service Centre for Sustainability Innovation (IaaS CSI) is an ecosystem-level platform helmed by SIT to support innovation projects (from POC test-bedding to implementation) and talent development, thus enabling agencies and enterprises to accelerate innovation for the green economy.

IaaS CSI aims to champion innovation within Singapore innovation ecosystem by bringing together capabilities from Universities, Polytechnics, ITE, Research Institutes, Industry. It is supported by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and staffed by Professional Officers/RE/RF who will serve as “Connectors” linking the industry to the research performers.

Research Engineers/Research Fellows work with industry partners to co-create commercially viable solutions. They deliver projects that help the industries and businesses move up the value chain. While working on these projects, RE/RF will have the opportunity to leverage or be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands. The RE/RF for Centre for Sustainability Innovation will play a pivotal role in advancing sustainability-focused research and projects that are relevant to the maritime domain, built environment, food and chemicals, healthcare, and others. This role will involve applying food structure understanding to formulate and optimise products with appropriate texture, appearance, and nutritional quality, while supporting laboratory trials, product evaluation, and data analysis to guide product refinement.

• Conduct literature reviews on food structure, texture-modified foods, ingredient functionality, and the IDDSI framework, with a focus on Level 5 (Minced & Moist) foods.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and integrate customised mechanical mechanisms for robotic systems, including robotic end-effectors, grippers, tool-changing interfaces, material handling systems, and task-specific automation modules.
• Develop 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical documentation using SolidWorks.
• Perform mechanical design analysis and engineering calculations, including load estimation, actuator sizing, structural integrity, tolerance analysis, and vibration/shock mitigation.
• Ensure mechanical designs are compatible with robotic arms, mobile platforms, sensors, and mechatronic systems, considering payload, reachability, safety, manufacturability, and maintainability.

Requirements

The main responsibility of this position is to deliver on an industry innovation research project. The Research Fellow/Engineer will be a key member of the research team focused on developing a framework for soil conditioning in Singapore soils through a series of experimental investigations. Additionally, they will work on delivering a novel Screw Conveyor Extraction Test (SCET) equipment, crucial for accurately assessing the effectiveness of soil conditioning in tunneling processes. The proposed framework and equipment will be validated at an active tunneling site.
