Job Requirements

Shell Energy Integration & Fundamentals (SEIF) Global Gas Fundamentals team is hiring a Senior LNG Analyst, Northeast Asia to join its global team of market analysts in the Singapore office. SEIF Global Gas Fundamentals Team Mission is: To drive Shell shareholder value through the delivery of world-class decision support.

Role Focus

• Lead analytical coverage of Northeast Asian gas and LNG markets—China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan—with a strong emphasis on China. This is a critical role that supports short-term trading, portfolio optimization, and long-term strategic outlook for Shell globally.

What you’ll be doing

Your key responsibilities include:

• Forecast LNG Imports & Supply: Model monthly LNG imports by sector (power, industrial, buildings, transport) and include domestic production and pipeline flows (esp. China).

• Collaborate & Integrate Models: Work with Shell’s Asia Power Analytics team to streamline existing models (e.g., Japan) and develop new power demand models.

• Analyze Market Signals & Contract Terms: Aggregate contractual data for spot/open demand forecasts and continuously monitor news, pricing, shipping flows, and government data for adjustments.

• Build Forecasting Tools & Dashboards: Develop and refine models in Excel and DS/ML platforms (e.g., DataIKU) for short-, mid-, and long-term horizons (0–20 years), with clear visualizations.

• Deliver Insights & Improve Accuracy: Provide country/regional/global forecasts to traders and strategic teams, benchmark against vendors, back-test models, and enhance predictive analytics working with our data science team.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Ensure that LNG operations fully comply with Shell’s internal standards including compliance and HSSE, paying special attention to HSSE hazards and risks that may have impact on Shell’s license to operate.

This role offers an opportunity to develop as a physical LNG trader within an LNG marketing and trading organization, with responsibility for executing trades and optimising positions across Asian LNG markets under the guidance of a team leader. The role requires a strong team player mindset, with active collaboration across the trading desk to deliver collective portfolio outcomes.

The LNG Physical Trader, Asia supports physical LNG trading and portfolio optimisation activities across Asia, with a focus on the Asia Pacific region. A key aspect of the role is the identification, valuation, and management of price optionality embedded in physical LNG contracts, cargo timing, and destination flexibility.

The individual is expected to contribute to value creation through disciplined execution, market analysis, and optimisation of physical LNG positions, while building deeper commercial and market expertise.

Scope of Trading Activities

• Trade spot and strip LNG cargoes in assigned markets for profit, extracting best in class market insights.
• Support price risk and exposure management of JKM, TTF, HH, JCC‑linked pricing, Brent‑linked LNG, and regional gas benchmarks with physical and/or derivatives trades.
• Optimisation of the LNG portfolio in close coordination with optimisation-focused trading colleagues
• Management of seasonal demand exposure and contract optionality within agreed strategies
• Active identification and management of price optionality arising from contract structures, index linkages, cargo timing, and destination flexibility

Skills and Requirements

• Experience in physical LNG, oil, gas, or energy trading, or strong commercial exposure to • Solid knowledge of LNG supply‑demand fundamentals and pricing mechanisms
• Experience or strong interest in physical contracts, logistics, shipping interfaces and physical options management.
• Typically 2–4 years’ experience in LNG, oil, gas, or energy‑related trading or commercial roles is a strong plus
• Familiarity with energy trading and risk management systems (ETRM/ETRMS) is a strong plus
