About the role

We are hiring a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to help make k-ID reliable at scale.

This role sits in the middle of our production backbone. You will own and improve the systems that keep our platform available, observable, secure, and resilient as traffic grows and our client base expands globally. You will work across infrastructure, tooling, deployment workflows, incident response, and systems design to make sure we can scale without breaking.

This is not a ticket closing operations role. We want someone who can look at a system, find the weak points, and harden it. Someone who cares about failure modes, blast radius, deployment safety, recovery time, cost discipline, and the realities of running production systems under pressure. You should be comfortable writing code, automating away toil, and partnering closely with engineers to improve reliability through better architecture and better operating practices.

Responsibilities

• Own the reliability, availability, and performance of the systems behind k-ID’s platform and public APIs

• Design and improve scalable infrastructure on AWS and Kubernetes that can support high growth, uneven traffic, and global production workloads

• Build and maintain strong observability across logs, metrics, tracing, alerting, and service health so issues are caught early and investigated quickly

• Improve deployment safety through better CI and CD workflows, release controls, rollback paths, and environment consistency

• Drive incident response and production readiness practices, including runbooks, on call hygiene, postmortems, capacity planning, and resilience testing

• Reduce operational toil by automating repetitive work and improving internal tooling for developers and operators

• Partner with engineering teams to embed reliability and operability into service design from the start, not after something fails in production

• Strengthen platform security and infrastructure hygiene across access controls, secrets handling, system hardening, and production safeguards

• Continuously improve system performance, resource efficiency, and cost awareness without compromising reliability

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure, platform engineering, site reliability engineering, or software engineering with meaningful production ownership

• Strong experience running production systems in AWS

• Strong hands on experience with Kubernetes and container based workloads

• Experience with infrastructure as code, preferably Terraform

• Experience designing and operating observability stacks using tools such as Prometheus, Alertmanager, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or equivalent systems

• Strong understanding of distributed systems, failure modes, service reliability, and production debugging

• Experience building or improving CI and CD systems and release workflows in modern engineering environments

• Ability to write code and automation in one or more languages such as Go, Python, or TypeScript

• Good judgment during incidents and a practical mindset around tradeoffs, risk, and recovery

• Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a remote team

• Startup experience is a plus, especially in environments where systems and processes are still being built

Job Summary

As a Full Stack Engineer at k-ID, you will help build the web applications and product experiences that developers, families, and end users rely on to interact with our platform.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who is comfortable working across the stack and wants real ownership. You will work closely with product, design, legal, and engineering partners to ship high quality applications that are fast, reliable, and easy to use. You should be comfortable moving between frontend and backend work, contributing to technical design, and operating what you build in production.

We are looking for an engineer who can execute independently, make sound technical decisions, and thrive in an early stage environment where systems and processes are still taking shape.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience

• 2 or more years of professional software engineering experience, ideally in a startup or high growth environment

• Strong experience with Go, TypeScript, React, and Next.js

• Experience building modern full stack applications using technologies such as PostgreSQL, Redis, S3, and Kubernetes

• Experience with server rendered web applications and modern frontend architecture

• Ability to safely migrate legacy systems or workflows to modern application and data infrastructure without downtime or data loss

• Experience partnering with designers to build polished and intuitive user experiences

• Comfort working across product requirements, technical design, implementation, testing, and production support

• Ability to operate effectively in a fast paced environment with ambiguity and changing priorities

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

• Ability to work with a few hours of overlap each day with the wider team, starting from 14:00 UTC

• Familiarity with compliance related or regulated product environments is a plus, but not required

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain full stack web applications that support k-ID’s platform, partners, and end users

• Contribute to technical design and implementation decisions across frontend, backend, APIs, and data flows

• Work with product managers, designers, and legal stakeholders to turn complex requirements into clear and usable product experiences

• Develop responsive, reliable, and maintainable applications using Next.js and related technologies

• Improve and support production systems by identifying issues, debugging effectively, and shipping fixes with care

• Migrate existing systems and workflows to newer architectures and data stores while preserving system integrity and business continuity

• Write clean, well tested code and help maintain a high bar for code quality, performance, and developer experience

• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and team problem solving

About The Role

We are hiring a Lead Site Reliability Engineer and NOC Lead to own production reliability and operational excellence across the platform.

This is a senior role for someone who can lead from the front. You will be responsible for the reliability, availability, observability, and operational maturity of k-ID’s systems, while also leading the Network Operations Center function. That means this person is not just responding to incidents. They are building the systems, processes, tooling, and team standards that make incidents less frequent, less severe, and faster to resolve when they do happen.

This role is more senior than our senior NOC hires. We want someone who can set the operating model for the NOC, raise the technical bar for incident management, partner deeply with engineering leadership, and drive the long term reliability roadmap for the business. You should be comfortable switching between hands on technical work, operational leadership, incident command, and team development.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the reliability and operational health of k-ID’s production systems and critical services

• Lead the NOC function, including shift structure, escalation paths, incident handling standards, readiness processes, and operational reporting

• Act as the senior escalation point for major incidents and serve as incident commander for high severity events when needed

• Design and improve monitoring, alerting, and operational tooling so the NOC can detect issues early and respond effectively

• Drive root cause analysis and post incident review practices that produce real corrective action rather than superficial summaries

• Partner with engineering teams to improve system resilience, deployment safety, service ownership, and production readiness

• Identify systemic risks across infrastructure, services, dependencies, and operational processes, then drive plans to reduce them

• Improve platform performance, availability, and recovery time through architecture changes, better automation, and stronger operating discipline

• Build and maintain runbooks, readiness checklists, service health standards, and escalation playbooks across the organization

• Help define service level objectives, operational metrics, and reliability targets that align with business needs

• Support and mentor senior NOC engineers and other operations team members, helping raise technical depth and decision quality across the function

• Contribute hands on to infrastructure and reliability engineering work where needed, especially in high leverage areas

Qualifications

• 7 or more years of experience in site reliability engineering, infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, or software engineering with significant production ownership

• Strong experience operating production systems in AWS

• Strong hands on experience with Kubernetes, containerized services, and modern infrastructure tooling

• Experience building and improving observability across metrics, logs, tracing, alerting, and service health

• Deep understanding of distributed systems, service failure modes, traffic management, capacity planning, and recovery design

• Experience designing or running incident response programs, on call operations, escalation frameworks, and post incident review processes

• Experience leading or managing NOC, production operations, or support functions in a high availability environment

• Strong experience with infrastructure as code such as Terraform
