HPE Networking is looking for an individual who is creative and self-motivated to fill the post of R&D Hardware Verification Engineer, holding responsibilities for the test and development of network connectivity devices used in our state-of-the-art network switches.

Job Family Definition:

Designs, analyzes, develops, modifies and evaluates electrical/electronic parts, components, sub-systems, algorithms, or integrated circuitry for electrical/electronic equipment and other hardware systems. Conducts feasibility studies, design margin and validation analyses and empirical testing on new and modified designs. Assists in architecture development and assessment. Evaluates reliability of materials, properties, designs, and techniques used in production. May direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication.

Management Level Definition:

Contributions include applying intermediate level of subject matter expertise to solve common technical problems. Acts as an informed team member providing analysis of information and recommendations for appropriate action. Works independently within an established framework and with moderate supervision.

Responsibilities:

• Validate next generation high-speed ethernet switching systems.
• Ensure performance of ethernet physical layer devices (Optical Transceivers, Direct Attach Cables, Active Optical Cables, etc.) with Aruba switches.
• Develop test methodology and execute verification testing to qualify ethernet physical layer devices with Aruba switches.
• Innovatively solve issues, drive completion of the project to schedule, and collaboratively network with other technical contributors.
• Collaborates and communicates with management and internal partners regarding design status, project progress and issue resolution.

Education and Experience Required:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Typically 2-4 years experience.
• Proven track record in system test, test infrastructure characterization, automation or relevant engineering experience and background.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience with design verification and system level stress test of complex electronic systems.
• Possess good knowledge and technical understanding of hardware design.
• Knowledge of high-speed ethernet protocols (e.g. XAUI, XFI, 25GAUI, XLAUI and CAUI-4), encoding (e.g. NRZ and PAM4) and optical/copper transceivers technologies is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills with ability to work in team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language.
• Familiar with programming languages such as Python and tools like itest, GitHub and Jenkins are a plus.

This is a 2-year contract position as a Lead R&D Engineer in the Centre for Environmental Sustainability.

Job Description

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Lead the design and development of embedded control systems for industrial and building energy applications
• Architect control systems at component, sub‑assembly, and system level, including controller selection, I/O design, and communication architecture
• Develop and implement control software using PLC platforms and high‑level programming languages (e.g. C++, C#, Python)
• Integrate sensors, actuators, and field devices using common industrial communication protocols (e.g. Modbus, BACnet)
• Define system requirements, design project scope, and prepare technical proposals for industry consultancy projects
• Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, and thermal domains to deliver integrated system solutions
• Conduct applied R&D to develop and translate new technologies in line with CFES’ technology roadmap
• Support commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation of deployed systems
• Deliver training to industry partners through short courses or as part of consultancy engagements

Requirements

• Strong hands‑on experience in embedded control system development, including PLC ladder logic and function block programming
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C++, C#, or Python, applied to industrial or embedded systems
• Experience with sensor and actuator integration, control panels, and system commissioning
• Familiarity with building systems, BMS, energy management systems, and HVAC applications would be an advantage
• Experience in applied R&D, consultancy, or industrial system deployment
• Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with staff, student interns, and industry collaborators
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and systems‑thinking skills
• Good written and oral communication skills

The Opportunity:

Acts in an actuarial capacity, performing duties which are of a mathematical and/or financial nature in order to provide highly accurate data and analyses for use by Actuaries in the evaluation of loss reserves. Looking for a highly motivated individual who is willing to learn, collaborates well with team members and works independently. The role reports to the Chief Reserving Actuary.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support in evaluating insurance technical liabilities on a quarterly basis for management and regulatory reporting as well as formal submission of actuarial investigation report and actuarial-focused returns for financial year-ends. This includes but not limited to performing data validation, compiling & categorizing data, conducting analyses & experience investigations and verifying factors and assumptions used in computations to ensure robust output.
• Participate in the evaluation, review and make recommendations on improvements of reserving processes (including automations) and standards that are consistent with internal Zurich actuarial policies and guidance and, where relevant, compliant with Group, Regional, and Local regulatory policies.
• Support in loss ratio planning and forecasting.
• Contribute to performance monitoring meetings in understanding of results, providing insights on trends & developments and communicate key uncertainties & issues.
• Support in assessing the company’s financial condition (i.e. solvency assessment, annual ORSA & IWST process), and under such economic & business conditions as regulator may specify.
• Proactively identify professional development and inculcate a sense of team spirit, teamwork and inter-team collaboration.
• Support Finance, Underwriting, Pricing, Claims, Risk and other functions on reserving, business initiative & projects and strategic business decisions as relevant.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

• A bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field is usually required.
• Professional qualifications such as the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) or Society of Actuaries (SOA) or Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) can also be beneficial in advancing your career as a Valuation Actuarial Support Analyst.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, as well as proficiency in statistical analysis software such as Excel including VBA, RStudio,and Power BI.
• Good communication skills are important to explain complex actuarial concepts to non-actuarial stakeholders.
• Previous work experience in an actuarial role is highly desirable.
