The Digital Supply Chain Group of the  Digital Manufacturing Division at ARTC is searching for a Senior Research Engineer to lead and support engineering projects focused on operations research using advanced analytics, simulations, and optimization.

Responsibilities:

1.      Innovate and Develop New Solutions:

a.   Design and prototype novel algorithms, tools, and systems to solve complex operational and industrial challenges.

b.   Conduct research and feasibility studies to create innovative, scalable, and efficient engineering solutions that meet industry needs.

2.      Lead the Development Process:

a.   Lead end-to-end development of research concepts into functional engineering prototypes, ensuring they are industry-ready.

b.   Collaborate with cross-functional teams to transition research results into tangible, deployable products or solutions.

3.      Apply Advanced Research in Engineering:

a.   Leverage cutting-edge technologies such as simulations (discrete-event & agent-based), network analysis, and optimization techniques to develop solutions.

b.   Implement machine learning and AI technologies into operational processes to enhance decision-making capabilities.

4.      Conduct Performance Testing and Optimization:

a.   Evaluate the performance and scalability of developed solutions through testing and optimization.

b.   Continuously improve prototypes by analyzing performance data and making necessary adjustments.

5.      Collaborate with Industry Partners:

a.   Work closely with industry partners to ensure that developed solutions align with real-world applications and requirements.

b.   Engage with stakeholders to gather feedback and refine research prototypes for successful industry adoption.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor or Master degree in engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, or related fields.
• More than 5 years of experience
• Strong foundation in mathematical modelling, algorithm design, and scientific computing.
• Expertise in simulations (discrete-event, agent-based) and optimization techniques.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C, C++, or MATLAB.
• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn) and optimization libraries (e.g., Gurobi, CPLEX).
• Experience in data structures, algorithm development, and software development best practices.
• Prior experience in operational optimization, such as fleet management, scheduling, or network design, is highly preferred.
• Experience applying research in practical settings such as aerospace, logistics, energy, manufacturing, or supply chain management.
• Familiarity with Industry 4.0 technologies such as advanced robotics, automation, or smart manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Partner with project managers, clients, and the development team to understand user needs, business goals, and technical requirements.

• Create user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for websites, mobile applications, and marketing materials.

• Present and articulate design concepts and solutions to internal teams, stakeholders, and management.

• Identify gaps in user insights, motivations, and pain points to strengthen design strategies.

• Propose and conduct user research initiatives, including usability testing, interviews, and surveys, and translate findings into actionable design recommendations.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product owners, to ensure solutions are feasible, scalable, and aligned with both user and business needs.

• Ensure all design outputs are visually compelling, intuitive, and consistent with established brand guidelines and design systems.

• Work closely with front-end developers to ensure accurate and high-quality implementation of designs.

• Contribute to front-end development efforts (training will be provided).

Requirements:

• A strong portfolio demonstrating visual design expertise, user-centered design thinking, research capabilities, and analytical skills.

• Proficiency in design tools such as Figma or equivalent platforms.

• Experience gathering requirements through workshops, stakeholder interviews, and research activities.

• Solid understanding of user research methodologies and hands-on experience conducting usability testing.

• Ability to communicate ideas effectively through storytelling, storyboards, mood boards, flowcharts, and presentation decks.

• Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.

• Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to pixel-perfect execution and design system consistency.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects concurrently.

• Strong business acumen with the ability to align design decisions with broader organizational goals.

• Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies is an advantage.

• Experience in project management is a plus.

• Experience in front-end development is a plus.
