The Natural Sciences and Science Education(NSSE) Department at the NIE in Singapore is seeking an Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in Design& Technology (D&T) education (and its related fields) to join its NSSE Department. The Natural Sciences and Science Education (NSSE) at the National Institute of Education in Singapore is committed to discovery and innovation in sciences and science education. Comprising faculty from both science content and pedagogical disciplines, we adopt an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research. Our science education researchers focus mainly on maximising the potential of every child through research on students' learning approaches and problem-solving skills, and work with teachers to develop models of creative teaching and new approaches to learning. Faculty members receive research support through internal and external grants, as well as access to world-class research facilities.

Requirements

Successful candidates must have:

·      A Bachelor degree in Science/Arts/Engineering and a doctoral degree (PhD) in education (specialising in D&T e.g., product design, mechanical, or related)

·      Published in top-tier, peer-reviewed international education journals, and be able to teach in English

·      Teaching qualifications, and it is desirable to have taught at secondary level for at least 5 years and have leadership experience in school

·      Post-doctoral research experience, prior experience in conducting professional development courses for teachers, and conducting research in multilingual and multicultural environments are desirable

·      Received competitive research grants to support their scholarly work

·      In addition, Associate Professors should have: (a) sustained, independent, and international academic reputation; (b) published in high-impact venues; (c) secured major research grants; and (d) received teaching awards.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to:

·       Design, teach and grade a range of pre-service and in-service courses in D&T Education, and graduate-level courses in D&T Education.

·       Supervise undergraduate and pre-service students in teaching practicum attachments and projects

·       Supervise Master’s and Doctoral students and perform examination duties for graduate students’ theses/dissertation, seminar, and oral examinations

·       Serve on committees in the Department, NIE and NTU and offer consultancy and professional services to schools, the Ministry of Education and other public education-related organisations on a request basis

·       Develop research programmes aligned to their areas of specialisation and publish in top-tier, peer-reviewed international education journals

·      In addition, Associate Professors will be expected to lead in key areas of research within the department, mentor junior faculty members, supervise graduate students and serve in programme leadership.

Qualifications

The Research by Design (RxD) program within the Department of Architecture is seeking an exceptional and highly qualified architect to fill the position of Assistant Professor in Practice (non-tenurable). This position is tailored for a practicing architect who has significantly advanced the boundaries of professional architectural practice through impactful, real-world design work as well as creative practice experimentation. The ideal candidate will have an established reputation for pushing innovative design solutions in both professional practice and public engagement. We are looking for a candidate with a proven ability to translate complex professional design challenges into the academic studio setting, enriching student learning with real-world insights. Ideal candidates should have a robust portfolio that exemplifies leadership in architectural practice, demonstrating excellence in both the conceptual and technical aspects of design. This role is for someone who can leverage their professional experience as a teaching tool, bringing valuable insights from practice to inform the academic curriculum. The Department of Architecture's Research by Design (RxD) program is seeking a highly qualified, interdisciplinary, and inspirational candidate for the position of Assistant Professor in Architectural Design (Tenure Track). We are looking for an individual with expertise in creative design research – research through design – who is committed to addressing pressing global challenges such as decarbonization, social justice, and inclusive futures. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on tropical geographies, particularly Southeast Asia and/or other equatorial climates, integrating these contexts into innovative design solutions for warming and fractured world futures. A PhD or a Master's degree is a prerequisite for this position.

We seek candidates whose research is deeply embedded in creative design practice and demonstrated through a robust portfolio of creative practice outputs, validated through peer-reviewed publications and societal engagement. Candidates should have a proven ability to lead with forward-thinking, anticipatory design ideas that influence both the profession and society. We are especially interested in candidates who are leaders in Research by Design methods and who leverage creative practice to envision and manifest a more just world through traditional and nontraditional research outputs. Furthermore, we seek candidates who can seamlessly integrate design, writing, and publication, contributing to a diverse and dynamic academic environment.
