Job Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Engineer to join a groundbreaking, government-funded research project: MIDAS. This project aims to transform Design for Safety (DfS) in the construction and built environment sectors by developing an advanced, AI-driven advisory platform. MIDAS will leverage Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and multimodal data (text, images, and Building Information Models) to proactively identify design risks and recommend mitigation measures throughout a project's lifecycle. 

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in assisting with the core technical development of the MIDAS platform, specifically focusing on multimodal data ingestion and the RAG-based LLM reasoning engine. Key responsibilities include designing the algorithms, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, and leading groups of student interns. 

Job Requirements

•    At least a bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, Built Environment, Computer Science or related field from a reputable university. Masters will be preferred.
•    Evidence of strong publication record in top academic journals
•    Proficiency in programming languages, particularly in Python or Matlab for automation and data analysis tasks
•    Familiarity working with Large Language Models and building RAG architectures.
•    Familiarity with BIM, IFC and graph databases.
•    Strong research experience, specifically in past research projects related to robotics or scene graphs is required
•    Strong written and oral communication skills.
•    Open to fixed-term contract

Working Hour: Mon-Fri | 8.30am-5.30pm

Salary: Up to $4,500.00

Job Description:

• Develop new supply sources when existing vendors and suppliers are inadequate.
• Identify potential suppliers to secure cost-effective materials for construction projects.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to negotiate the best terms, including pricing, quality, and delivery schedules.
• Issue purchase orders, source materials, liaise, negotiate, and follow up with suppliers on documentation, pricing, and quality control.
• Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely deliveries and minimize project delays.
• Collaborate with internal teams to align purchasing activities with current and long-term sourcing needs.
• Maintain proper filing and documentation of procurement records for compliance and audit purposes.
• Handle other ad-hoc administrative tasks related to procurement.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the superior.

Requirements:

• Diploma or equivalent in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in construction purchasing or procurement.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and procurement software.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Knowledge of construction materials and supply chain processes is an advantage.

• Create, update, and manage project timelines to ensure efficient workflow and execution.
• Monitor project schedules, track progress, and provide regular updates while identifying any deviations.
• Analyse scheduling data, assess budget forecasts, and oversee cost estimations to maintain financial accuracy.
• Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project teams to align work scope and prepare detailed reports for management.

Requirements:

• Degree in any relevant discipline.
• At least 4 years of project planning experience in Construction industry.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Project
