What The Role Is
You oversee environmental health and hygiene compliance across defence facilities, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, vector control, and public health safety through inspections, surveillance, outbreak management, and outreach initiatives.
What You Will Be Working On
- Conduct routine environmental health audits and perform vector surveillance, including specimen collection, sorting, and taxonomic identification
- Monitor environmental health risks and support investigations during outbreaks or hygiene lapses
- Manage surveillance data, produce reports, and support public health outreach, outbreak management, and training initiatives
- Coordinate with external partners, manage contracts, and assist in policy development and standard operating procedure reviews
Challenge(s) - Balancing routine surveillance with rapid response during public health emergencies
- Coordinating across multiple stakeholders including contractors, facility management, and external agencies while maintaining compliance and operational readiness
What We Are Looking For
- Education in Environmental Science, Public Health, Life Sciences, or a related discipline
- At least 2 years of prior experience in a relevant field; previous public health experience is advantageous
- Certification as a NEA Registered Environmental Control Officer and Food Hygiene Officer is preferred
- Possession of a Class 3 Driving Licence is advantageous, as the role requires frequent travel between facilities
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with competencies in contract management, outbreak management, and IT
- Interest in outdoor fieldwork, data trending, and management
