Hybrid model has perks, but needs more flex

As a Data Scientist at Welo Data, the hybrid model is pretty decent. You get some flexibility, but it's not fully remote. The culture for a startup is good overall.

Pros

I really like the hybrid model here. We only have to be in the San Francisco office three days a week. This work arrangement helps a lot with personal appointments for data analytics professionals.

Cons

The 'flexibility' isn't really choosing your days. It's fixed days, which can be tough sometimes. I wish there were more WFH options, especially for less urgent AI/ML projects. Travel to the office can be a hassle.

Advice to Management

Offer more flexible WFH days, not just fixed ones. Trust us to get our work done remotely, especially for Data Scientist roles.

Good Remote Options for Data Analysts
Pros: I've been with Welo Data for a while now, and the remote work policy is really solid. As a Data Analyst in Austin, it's nice to have that flexibility. It helps a lot with personal commitments in the data analytics industry.
Cons: Sometimes communication can be tough when everyone's spread out, especially for project collaboration. There's also some inconsistency with how different managers handle requests for truly flexible hours, beyond just being remote.
Advice to Management: Keep promoting flexible work arrangements and standardize how managers approach individual flexible hour requests. It would help maintain consistency across teams and improve remote collaboration tools.

Decent Culture, But Still Finding Its Way
Pros: The people I work with as a Data Analyst are awesome. We have a solid team, and there's a strong sense of camaraderie within our immediate group. It's a pretty friendly atmosphere overall.
Cons: It's a smaller tech startup, so the company culture can feel a bit undefined. There's not always clear communication from leadership, especially with our evolving hybrid model. It can be tough to know what's coming next.
Advice to Management: Try to provide more clarity on company-wide initiatives and future plans. Consistent communication is key for a growing tech startup, especially for employees in the San Francisco office and those working hybrid.

Growth is slow for Data Analysts here
Pros: The team culture is pretty solid, especially for a startup. You get to work on some interesting big data projects, which is great experience. Learning from the senior engineers is a real plus.
Cons: Career growth isn't very clear for junior Data Analysts. Promotions feel super slow, particularly if you're trying to move up in the San Francisco office. There's no real structured mentorship program to help develop skills.
Advice to Management: Please focus on creating clear career paths and a proper mentorship program for data analytics roles. It would help a lot with retention and employee development.
