The overall purpose of the medication aide is to administer medications to residents in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the licensing and functioning of Level IV Residential Care Facilities, Certified Residential Medication Aides (CRMA) perform these tasks as ordered by physicians, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations, and consistent with facility policies. - To assist with scheduling of resident's care conferences and participate in conferences where applicable;
- To work closely with the Director of Care to facilitate resident's move in, move out and transfers;
- To provide direct resident care and medication/ treatment administration and document care in compliance with regulatory and Resident Care standards and policies and procedures;
- To process the orders and safe keep drugs and narcotics and administer in compliance with all regulatory requirements, scope of practice and policies and procedures;
- To facilitate and provide resident/family education;
- To plan, coordinate, manage & evaluate the resident's care plan working with the resident/substitute decision maker, physicians, nursing & interdisciplinary team and contracted service providers;
- To coordinate nursing team's resident care assignments to ensure efficient and timely delivery of services to residents;
- To respond to and manage significant changes in resident's condition and or medical emergencies; provide emergency first aid;
- To teach, delegate to, and direct unregulated care providers;
- To coordinate emergency response in the absence of Director of Care or Director of Health & Wellness/ Executive Director;
- To respond to resident/family concerns and ensure appropriate action taken and or concern communicated to Director of Care or Director of Health & Wellness/ Executive Director and other departments;
- To follow and assist the Director of Care or Director of Health & Wellness in the coordination, implementation and monitoring of Infection Prevention and Control , Health and Safety and Clinical Programs and Quality/Safety Plans for the Nursing Department;
- To work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);

- To complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in applicable Province/State;
- Experience working in a senior's environment and with unregulated care providers preferred;
- Education and experience in gerontology, rehabilitation, community/complex/long term care an asset;
- Must possess strong written and oral communication, critical thinking, care coordination, time management and customer focus skills;
- Must have demonstrated sound clinical knowledge;
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification required;
- Computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft office applications.
- Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

Regulatory Requirements:
• High School or GED required.
• Current CNA certification in the state of Maine.
• Listing on the Maine State CNA Registry without annotation.

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
1. Assists nurses working with assigned residents to administer to their personal needs; bathing, daily hygiene, toileting, lifting, turning or re-positioning with the nurse.
2. Sets up and monitors residents prescribed diets during mealtimes.
3. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Charge Nurse.
4. Assists resident with ADLs including set up to extensive or total assist in care needs.
5. Encourages resident to achieve maximum ambulation. Following P.T. instructions/program as needed.
6. Applies anti-embolic stockings (no ace bandages).
7. Assists with bowel/bladder retraining, toileting, and incontinent care.
8. Care of prosthetic devices including hearing aids, glasses, braces, hand splints, glass eyes, etc. Assist resident as needed with application, removal and cleaning.
9. Completes charting daily of care given using CNA documentation sheets.
10. Collect voided urine specimens, stool specimens for lab testing.
11. Colostomy care, change bag, skin care and report breakdown to Charge Nurse.
12. Maintains standard precautions, care of linen, waste, contaminated equipment, gowning and gloving at all times. Isolation techniques as needed.
13. Assists with personal care, baths (bed, tub, shower, whirlpool), oral hygiene, and peri care.
14. Assists with the emptying of bedpan and urinal. Check urinals every 2 hours.
15. Assists with positioning and providing comfort measures to residents.
16. Assist with postmortem care as designated by the Charge Nurse.
17. Assists with range of motion.
18. Assists with peri care and sitz bath as designated by the Charge Nurse.
19. Assists with transfers to chair, wheelchair, gurney, and mechanical lifts.
20. Unsterile application of heat and cold-moist and dry, or ice bag, rice packs.
21. Assist and apply bed devices, footboard, bed cradle, heel/elbow protectors, trapeze bar, hand, trochanter rolls, or other pressure relieving device.
22. Assists in completing monthly weights and vital signs as scheduled.
23. Provides assistance in therapeutic activities and communication to residents.
24. Applies treatments as directed by charge nurse.

Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Aide assists in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents.

- Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director;
