About the role

The Senior Quality Manager for Cell Process is responsible to managing the quality of all Lithium-ion (Li-ion) cells made for and by Dyson. Reporting to the respective Head of Quality, this role is responsible in ensuring delivery of safe and reliable battery cells into consumers’ hands. This role requires active engagement with Design, Engineering, Operations and Commercial teams for both products under development and those that have started production. The role includes supporting and assuring our Li-ion cells conform to our exacting quality standards. Extensive knowledge and experience of Li-ion cell production and associated critical-to quality activity is an essential part of this role.

• Lead a cross functional team developing and optimizing the cell manufacturing processes for the next generation cell technology incorporating best practices.
• Lead prototype and pilot builds from the quality perspective through the development of the processes, tooling, and equipment.
• Involvement in design, construction and plant installation for a successful launch, and subsequently continuous improvement of processes and equipment for the production of high-quality cell.
• Ensure design takes into account manufacturing capability and ensure key characteristics are properly cascaded from product characteristics to process characteristics.
• Work with the product design team to integrate new cell design into the production by adjusting or updating equipment and tooling.
• Technically support pilot line troubleshooting and problem-solving.
• Provide inputs to and assure both design of product and process have PFMEA and Fault Tree embedded to drive robustness of processes. Use insights to optimize production design and ensure knowledge documents are created.
• Provide technical direction and support to the project team and suppliers.
• Develop control plan, SOP, and other process documentation and provide required trainings for the production quality teams.
• Review and report cell quality indicators (Key process indicators in processes such as mixing, electrode coating, cell assembly, formation, etc.) and evaluate potential improvements and corrective actions to address any issues that arises.
• Develop production quality metrics.
• Analyse and identify critical processes that affect the safety and reliability of the assembly and ensure there is effective surveillance of the key indicators to assure the quality of the cells being made. In some cases, active surveillance will be required.
• Incorporate Quality into shop floor management systems/ Enterprise Resource Planning system to ensure compliance.
• Facilitate the development of Standard Operating Procedures and documentation required for production operations.
• When needed, provide evidence-based risk assessments for issues and decisions.
• Ensure production maintains manufacturing processes that meet Dyson’s design standards and have a robust Quality System in place, with rigorous controls for critical-to-quality items.
• Provide day to day support and work closely with battery manufacturers and pack assemblers to investigate issues in production and implement corrective actions to minimize yield losses, thus minimizing risk of latent failures.
• Facilitate Dyson Part Approval Process (DPAP).
• Assume other duties as assigned.

About you

• Proven experience in managing a team to set up equipment and process for pilot or production scale cell manufacturing.
• Preferably 10 years of battery experience in cell manufacturing, preferably in Lithium-ion systems.
• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field. Commensurate relevant work experience will be needed.
• Successful candidates will have meticulous attention to detail, possess outstanding problem-solving skills, and have direct, hands-on machine experience.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation and organizational skills as well as the ability to work and manage time independently.
• Confident to influence and present to senior positions in the company.
• Extensive experience in Quality and/or Engineering Function in the Manufacturing of Lithium-ion (Li-ion) Cells and Battery Pack Assemblies.
• Experienced practitioner of relevant tools and methodologies, such as: FMEAs, Statistical Process Control, 8Ds, 6Sigma certifications, Cost of Quality, Project Management, TQM etc.
• Sound knowledge in ISO 9001/IATF 16949/ VDA6.3.
• <10% travel required.

• Responsible for developing the Quality strategy, policies, processes, standards, and systems for the Company.
• Lead the Quality Management function within the business to achieve and maintain compliance to applicable QMS requirements.
• Act as Management Representative to ensure that processes needed for the quality management system are documented including, change control, internal audit.
• Effective implementation and management of Nonconformance and Corrective and Preventive Action.
• Chair Management Review meetings, reporting on the effectiveness of the QMS and delivering a strategy for new processes and products (extension to scope).
• Ensures QMS requirements are integrated into the organisation's business processes.

• Plan and ensuring relevant training is conducted, working closely with key and supporting functions of the QMS.
• Support the product approvals process, working closely with the Regulatory Affairs function for technical file compilation and submissions.
• Plan and oversee Quality management system audits, consulting with regulatory bodies.

About you

• At minimum degree in Engineering or Quality.
• At least 8 years working experience in quality role(s); out of which, at least 6 years in highly regulated sectors like Pharma/medical industry as a QMS Lead or Qualified auditor.
• Extensive knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001 / ISO 13485) within regulated industries essential.
• Exposure to working in Matrix organization and/or able to mobilize indirect resources in a matrix organization, facilitating collaboration.
• Ability to independently drive continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills (written & verbal). Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

About the role

QA Engineer (Supplier/Incoming)

• Manage Incoming material inspection process to audit and confirm materials are conforming to specifications and meet all manufacturing requirements.
• Manage and mentor a team of QA inspectors to ensure timely and effective audit of incoming materials.
• Manage the Non-Conforming Material process for incoming materials.
• Work to resolve supplier related issues to ensure timely & effective resolution and continuity of supply.
• Proactively work with suppliers to identify opportunities and continually improve the incoming quality level.
• Maintain the Supplier Assessment system, including quality reports and supplier scorecards.
• Develop relevant test and inspection plans and/or criteria for incoming materials.
• Audit suppliers periodically to ensure compliance to standards.
• Support supplier related qualification initiatives (i.e. new parts, new revision, new tooling).
• Support quality audit of new suppliers.
• Issue drawings and part approval reports to suppliers.
• Review and approve suppliers’ control plans and inspection standards.

Principal Accountabilities

• To ensure Incoming materials are processed in a timely manner through QA location.
• To ensure short Aging period for non-conforming incoming materials.
• To ensure supplier quality issues are resolved in a timely manner, including Corrective Actions.
• Drive measurable improvement projects to ensure supplier performance continually and consistently excel in their scorecards.
• To maintain and upkeep the Supplier Audit program.
• Drive productivity improvement projects for incoming section.
• To develop and manage a team of competent Incoming QA inspectors.
• To update key performance metrics to management.

About you

• Degree in Electronic/Mechatronics/Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years’ work experience in Quality / Process capacity in a manufacturing industry.
• Knowledgeable in the field of Quality Assurance and its application, including various quality tool and techniques such as Fishbone, Pareto, Cause-and-Effect.
• Able to understand part drawings, including GD&T requirements.
• Knowledge of basic statistical principles and its application is a must.
• Knowledge and practical experience in measurement equipment (CMM, Roundness, and Vision measurement) would be an added advantage.
• Must be familiar with commonly used productivity & statistical software such as Microsoft Office and Minitab/JMP.
• Able to work flexible hours to suit work/scheduling demands.
• Able to travel on short notices for supplier related issues.
• Proactive and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
