This position is within the Cheltenham Training Division (CDT), Office of Cheltenham Operations (OCH) under the National Capitol Region (NCR) Training Operations Directorate and located in Cheltenham, Maryland. The mission of the division is to train law enforcement officers and agents in the proper techniques of operating law enforcement motor vehicles. The purpose of this position is to serve in a Lead capacity over a group of driver instructors involved in planning and conducting classroom, laboratory, and/or field instruction sessions as part of the driver training programs. The position also serves as a lead instructor and subject matter expert in one or more of the driver training programs. Typical assignments include:
Oversees and/or participates in developing course material in the driver training instructional field.
Uses life experiences from law enforcement or a comparable military service background to enhance course content and respond to student questions.
Serves as the subject-matter expert in one or more of the assigned driver training courses.
Participates in developing and/or revising lesson plans.
Plans, coordinates, and executes field training and lab exercises.
Monitors progress of students, document results and takes or recommends remedial and corrective action to include additional training and changes in training and/or operational procedures and instructions.
Conducts research on emerging driver training and vehicle technology, practices and techniques to enhance instructional knowledge and skill.
Initiates content changes and develops different approaches and methods of instruction and recommends any other changes needed to improve the program/course and achieve program/course objectives.
Articulates and communicates to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review, and deadlines and time frames for completion.
Writes summaries based upon research for use in updating existing course material and student lesson plans.
Oversees/monitors the work of lower-grade instructors in these specialized areas.
Provides oversight concerning the conduct of training classes for personnel.
Plans, coordinates, and executes field training and lab exercises.
Leads the team in assessing its strengths and weaknesses and in exploring alternatives and determining what improvements can be made in achieving training course objectives.
