Project Overview

The Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) Centre invites applications for Postdoctoral Associate positions in the area of crystallization science and particle engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to work on the design and engineering of advanced microparticle-based pharmaceutical drug products comprising soft (polymer/hydrogel) matrices containing crystalline drug particles, typically made using microfluidic methods. This work will be conducted in close collaboration with a consortium of pharmaceutical companies (GSK, Merck and Pfizer). He/she will be reporting to Prof. Patrick S. Doyle (MIT, SMART) and Prof Saif A. Khan (NUS, SMART) and work with their team of researchers and collaborators.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be working closely with CAMP researchers and industry collaborators to develop a high-throuhgput process to manufacture engineered particles.

Principal duties are

• Generate various pharmecutical particles using microfluidics devices.

• Perform appropriate analysises to characterize the engineered particles.

• Perform materials testing experiments.

• Understand a process scale-up in order to translate the technology into an industrial domain.

• Prepare reports for industrial sponors.

Requirements

• PhD degree in chemical/materials engineering or related fields.

The Clinical R&D Engineer II is responsible for providing engineering leadership in the creation and the development of new medical device products (invasive and non-invasive). You will be accountable for researching, developing, designing test models, and evaluating mechanical and electro-mechanical materials, components, assemblies, processes and/or equipment. In addition, you will conduct feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality and develop new concepts from initial design to market release. The Clinical R&D Engineer II will also direct support personnel and coordinate project activities.

Responsibilities: 

• Utilize multidisciplinary engineering knowledge to design and develop innovative new products in the dynamic structural heart space where Abbott is a leading provider of solutions.
• Understands user needs and aids in setting appropriate requirements to capture those needs.
• Performs technical planning and performance evaluation studies.
• Evaluates prototypes formally and informally through structured and ad hoc testing. Test aspects of new projects or sub-systems to evaluate prototypes and validate output to meet intended use requirements.
• Evaluates customer satisfaction and device performance through end user testing (simulated use, pre-clinical, and/ or usability), analysis and studies.
• Provides clinical, usability and system level technical guidance and support to teams as appropriate.
• Evaluates the system user interface (device controls, IFU, training, etc.) formally and informally through structured and ad hoc testing. Tests aspects of the system user interface to evaluate prototype usability with end users and validate user interface is safe and effective.
• Provides input into the development of clinical system validation plans and the conduct of those tests.
• Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.
• Investigates and evaluates existing technologies.
• Establishes and cultivates an extensive network of support to facilitate completion of assignments.
• Participates in the development of less experienced staff by setting an example, providing guidance and work direction, and offering counsel.
• Participates in determining goals and objectives for projects and may lead projects.
• Influences middle management on technical or business solutions.

Qualifications:

Required (Must be evident on your resume)

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or other related engineering field. Master’s Degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering or equivalent preferred.
• 2+ years of engineering experience, primarily in R&D or clinical engineering

• Knowledge of statistical techniques and design of experiments
• Knowledge of human factors engineering
• Knowledge of animal models and animal study design

• Experience in a Quality System environment

As the R&D Buyer IOD supporting the Research and Development Team, you will be responsible for leading and driving the buying activities for R&D projects across multiple categories (e.g. Labs Services, Chemicals, Equipment, Packaging, etc.) within the eye care industry. This position will work closely with key business partners to develop effective cost reduction strategies and implementation plans with a focus on reducing total cost of ownership while optimizing supplier performance in Fort Worth, Texas!

Key Responsibilities:

• Optimize procurement activities to ensure materials availability while minimizing inventory costs.
• Supervise and lead delivery of raw materials and services to meet R&D project goals and objectives.
• Actively works to support the development of new technologies and supplier capabilities.
• Lead new supplier introduction by populating address, bank details, contact info, tax info, goods or services offered, risk assessment into SAP Ariba.
• Develop, monitor, and report supplier performance with KPI's including benchmarking with other companies/industries.
• Drive root cause investigation of supplier issues through the use of corrective and preventative action (CAPA).
• Provide support for invoice queries.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities to acquire the best value for Alcon.
• Be proficient at oral / written communication in order to optimally explain sophisticated ideas and approaches to a wide audience.
• May participate as an active member of project core teams to develop and deliver upon project schedules.
• Maintains accurate inventory management, material tracking.
• Knowledge of ISO, FDA, MDD and regulations applicable to the design and development of Interocular devices.
• Experience working with large data sets and being able to interpret the data to make recommendations and/or decisions from the data.
• Experience working in Microsoft Excel, SAP, SAP Business Intelligence, Tableau.

Key Requirements/Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs).
• The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
• 2 years of Proven Experience.

The Science and Engineering Research (SER) Directorate is looking to hire a resourceful and motivated individual, who is passionate about supporting the delivery of impactful outcomes through Science and Technology, under the Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) 2025 plan. The Strategic Planning unit is the nexus of policy, corporate reporting and economic analysis to ensure that SERC delivers on its strategic thrusts of value-creation and socioeconomic impact to Singapore. You will work closely with key stakeholders internally and externally to achieve the outcomes of various programmes, and develop a deep understanding of R&D policies and their wider impact on the research ecosystem in Singapore. You will acquire skills in interpreting data to develop policies, as well as develop deeper organisational awareness. The ability to be agile and thrive in a changing work environment is a must!

As a Senior Manager/Manager of Strategic Planning, your key areas of work would include the following:

Resource and Performance Monitoring

1. Support Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC)'s senior management in the governance and allocation of resources;

2. Synthesise data and develop recommendations to support executive decision making;

3. Support the constant review and improvement of SERC's strategy, operations and processes, including the improvement of SERC's investments and activities;

4. Develop specific measures of success with relevant experts;

5. Conduct financial modelling and monitor budgets for SERC entities;

6. Analyse and track performance of SERC entities in response to overall strategies.

Corporate Planning

7. Support SERC's senior management in key meeting platforms and monitor strategic and management issues across SERC;

8. Organise events for SERC's management for business reviews, and charting of strategic directions for SERC entities.

Job Requirements

9. Relevant working experience in the public sector, strategic and/or corporate planning would be an advantage

10. Ability to translate concepts into implementation plans

11. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

12. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Powerpoint, Words, Excel and Power BI or equivalent)

13. Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills
