This post is part of the growing team in research nurses and practitioners working for the Windsor Research Unit within CPFT. They will be responsible for the set up and day to day running of Dementia studies and clinical trials across Cambridge and Peterborough, primarily supporting studies of Professor John O’Brien’s group.

The post holder will be coordinating patient care during research studies with responsibility for conducting clinical activities education and monitoring of study subjects through care pathways.

This is a 3-year fixed-term contract (37.5 hours per week).

The post holder will provide ongoing support, advice and information to patients/volunteers regarding their participation in clinical research in order to obtain effective informed consent. Liaise with patients, relatives and carers on all aspects of research activity.

They will deliver and promote clinical trials and other research studies within the trust and ensure day to day practice reflects the highest standards of governance, clinical effectiveness, safety and patient experience.

1. To identify potential participants from CPFT and CUH clinical services, community services, university and NHS databases, specialist clinics, third sector organisations, schools and other access routes, for CRN portfolio studies and clinical trials.

Job Purpose

• A clinical research coordinator will assist Principal Investigator or Co-investigators to monitor the administration and progress of a clinical trial.

Clinical Trial

• Oversee overall clinical operations related to the conduct of the clinical trials.
• To adhere to compliance with Research Governance, Good Clinical Practice, Data Protection and Ethical Requirements.

To work according to ICH GCP guidelines and research governance standards for clinical trials and current Standard Operating Procedures To manage, with the assistance and support of senior colleagues, a range of clinical trial protocols. To identify, screen and recruit participants into research studies according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria to ensure the effective achievement of study aims and monitoring of their condition throughout participation. To work in partnership with the PI, wider research and clinical teams at all stages of patient recruitment and participation in research studies. To provide verbal and written information to patients considering participation, answer their questions and refer to the PI/CI for additional information when required. To facilitate the informed consent of a participant (appropriate to age and level of understanding) during the recruitment process in accordance with ICH-GCP and other guidelines. To undertake clinical procedures with study participants according to the research protocol, including, but not exclusively: taking bloods; ordering tests and investigations; administering medication; and undertaking examinations. As a clinical research coordinator, you will be actively involved in coordinating clinical trial activities according to the study protocol and in compliance to the ICH Good Clinical Practice guidelines and the Health Products (Therapeutic Products) Regulations under the Health Product Act.

The Opportunity:

Applications are invited for a Clinical Research Fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Cardiovascular Science (CVS) with a view to obtaining a PhD. Potential applicants should contact Professor Nicholas L Mills (0131 242 6515) or Dr Kuan Ken Lee (0131 242 6515).

Professor Mills and Dr Lee’s research interests are in health data research, cardiac biomarkers, care pathways and data-enabled clinical trials. For further details see the CVS website.

Under Professor Mills and Dr Lee’s supervision, the appointee will be required to demonstrate an ability to work independently and deliver a wide range of complex tasks. They will need to demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and self-motivation to deliver the health data research projects. During this post, the appointee will obtain a higher postgraduate (PhD or MD) degree.

This post is full-time (40 hours per week). We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.
