What an College Intern - Analytical Chemist does at HP:

• Design Analytical Chemistry solutions for Ink processes development, technologies, and formulations for product design and manufacturing based on established chemistry and engineering principles and in accordance with development technology practices and guidelines.

• Applies Analytical Chemistry knowledge in any of the area on “Chromatography, Spectroscopy, Elemental Analysis and Thermal material measurement” to develop test methods to solve complex ink analysis request within established guidelines and recommends appropriate alternatives.

• Develop/Optimization of test methods that best fit our Ink Chemistry analysis.

• Apply good/safe laboratory practices to conduct experiments.

• Implement analytical test plans for new and existing products; assists manufacturing partners with issue diagnosis and problem-solving.

• Collaborate and communicate with management, internal, and outsourced research and development partners regarding design status, project progress, and issue resolution.

• SIO is expanding its capability to setup an ink development team in Singapore, Tuas Location. A part of the team is ink analytical lab where we perform chemistry analysis to support to our R&D team & our Ink production plant. We are looking for potential intern candidates with the following skillsets to join our exiting new journey.
• Masters/PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry or Chemistry .
• Able to commit from May/June-Dec 2024.
• Academic experience with and understanding of chemistry concepts, practices, and laboratory procedures.
• Strong understanding and experience in designing test methods and associated analytical tooling processes.

• Ability to effectively communicate analytical findings and recommended solutions to various stakeholders.

• Must have experience in any tools related to Chromatography (LC-MS/GC-MS/GPC/CE), Spectroscopy (FTIR/TGA), Elemental Analysis (ICP-OES) and Thermal material (TGA/DSC) measurement and precision hands on in the area of sample preparation.

Chemist Technician Co-op/Intern

The Chemist Technician Co-Op/Intern is responsible for assisting in the analysis of routine and non-routine shipping, production, and development samples submitted by the operation as well as any other samples as directed by the laboratory supervisor.  Analyses include phsyical analyses (Computerized Particle Analyzer, Test Sieves, Dust and Degradation) and chemical analyses (wet titration, Xray Diffraction, ICP-OES).

What will you do? 

• Chemical analysis of routine production samples.

• Chemical analysis of daily mine samples.

• Chemical and screen analysis of daily shipping samples.

• Maintenance of laboratory equipment and housekeeping.

• Comply with Environmental Health/Safety, operations and other business requirements.  

• Engage in self-development to enrich your skillset to fulfill your career aspirations.  

What do you need for this role?

• Sophomore level or higher pursuing bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related degree preferred

• 2.75 GPA or higher

• Ability to function in an industrial chemical and mining environment

• Student in standing at the time of the co-op/internship

• 1-2 years of experience volunteering, working with student/school organizations, or work is required

• Previous internship or co-op experience is preferred

• Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license - You will need to be able to travel to and from sites and/or office.

• Basic computer skills are required

• Experience working in a team environment is a must

• Familiarity with an industrial environment is highly desirable

• Effective verbal communication skills is a plus

• Physical work environment is occasionally outdoors with exposure to varying degrees of hot and cold environments

PTO Chemist Intern

As part of the Pharmaceutical Technical Operations (PTO) team in Singapore, the PTO Chemist intern provides support in the technical laboratory in terms of chemical processes and analysis for various manufacturing facilities at the site, along with maintaining housekeeping and safety standards in the laboratory.

The PTO Chemist Intern's main responsibilities are as follows:

• Support laboratory operations / laboratory management activities through maintaining inventory management system and laboratory housekeeping

• Perform analysis using various analytical techniques (spectrometry and chromatography) in supporting various plant and utilities improvement initiatives.

• Support process understanding or improvement projects through experiments and/or process/analytical method evaluation and familiarisation.

• Assist in process trending and data collection for process monitoring purposes.

• Complies with all divisional and site-specific policies, guidelines and procedures. Demonstrates and promotes Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) leadership behaviours, ensuring that all activities are carried out in accordance with EHS requirements. Actively participates in GEMBA safety walks.

Job Requirements:

• Pursuing Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field, including Chemistry /Applied Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or Chemical/Biological/Mechanical Engineering

• Demonstrated capability in application of sound engineering and scientific principles, project management skills and structured/analytical problem solving techniques

• An excellent team player who is able to readily take on responsibilities and work independently

• Able to commit to a 6-month internship is preferred
