The R&D Senior Packaging Engineer will be a part of the newly formed Sustainability Center of Excellence (COE) located in BD Singapore. The Sustainability COE is modeled after the Sustainable Medical Technology Institute (SMTI) and will have the same mandate as the SMTI. In this role, the Senior Packaging Engineer will be responsible for execution of the broader R&D Sustainability strategy at BD. This individual will help integrate sustainability focus into programs for making changes to current products and to new product development programs in all 8 BD businesses. In particular, this individual will support Design for Sustainability efforts within BD’s R&D portfolio. This will require ability on the candidate’s part to work cross-functionally and with different stakeholders across geographies. Some travel may be required.
This is a critical role in the COE and this individual will drive activities focused on assessing and reducing the carbon footprint of BD products. The long-term vision is to have environmental sustainability become an integral part of the product and packaging development process, and the work done by him /her will be instrumental in enabling this outcome. He / she will strike a balance of fast-paced execution with thoroughness of approach, using iterative concept development informed by stakeholder feedback.
The R&D Senior Packaging Engineer supports design, development, and validation of medical device packaging. The successful candidate will contribute to and/or lead a portfolio of packaging projects and ensure that best practices are employed and will have the opportunity to develop as an internal subject matter expert with respect to fundamental packaging materials and design. The Senior Bioinformatician supports two main activities – they participate in bioinformatics activities for research projects using genomics data analysis and management - and provide support with courses in Georgetown’s Master's in Health Informatics & Data Science (HIDS).

This position will be a R&D/Sustaining engineering position supporting the FFR and OCT hardware portion of our business. Performs the layout, construction, and evaluation of a variety of prototype Printed Circuit Boards, fixtures, and tools. Applies engineering and scientific principles to the evaluation and solution of technical problems. Exercises technical judgment in planning, organizing, performing, coordinating and/or directing engineering work. Performs engineering studies. Position Summary:
The Co-ops support product or process development activities related to the development, design, research and manufacturing of NxStage Medical's new and existing suit of products. As part of the R&D team, this involves participating in testing, design, building samples, and other activities as needed by the project team. Co-ops in this position will have the opportunity to work more independently and take on additional responsibilities with their teams. Co-ops may be part of the system engineering, hardware mechanical engineering, or disposables engineering team.
Core Responsibilities:
• Participate in design or development of new medical equipment or disposables and/or upgrades to existing products
• Assist with major projects, or phases of projects, to resolve advanced and complex technical problems
• Ensure all design activities conform to design controls; and that all analysis, design and testing activities are properly documented
• Participate in activities to ensure design and process shortcomings are identified and appropriately addressed
• Assist the product development team in the adoption and use of best practices and design methodologies
• Debug and develop reliability improvements for existing products and products under development.
• Provide technical support for product engineering, design development, integration, test and evaluation
• Investigate the feasibility of new projects, systems or approaches
• Learn about and work in ways that are compliant with internal and external standards, good manufacturing practices, and quality system regulations
Requirements:
• Candidate for BS or MS in Mechanical, Industrial, Plastics, Electrical, or Biomedical Engineering
• Intermediate knowledge of CAD and Technical Drawing creation
• Basic understanding of product and process development of medical devices or similar product experience is desired
• Prior relevant work experience is preferred, such as working in an FDA, defense industry or ISO regulated environment
• Understanding of aspects of system design, electronics, mechanical and software integration or manufacturing processes is beneficial
• Prior experience designing for rapid prototyping as well as traditional manufacturing techniques desired
• Has a constructive approach to teamwork and collaboration
• Demonstrated interest in medical device or pharmaceutical industries
• Excellent technical communication skills and attention to detail, including creating and editing technical procedures, protocols, and reports
• Commitment to performing all tasks with quality and integrity
