About the Role
In 2021, Sustainalytics committed to expanding its suite of ESG solutions by building a new business unit dedicated to innovating a climate-focused product suite that empowers financial institutions and corporates to align their investment decisions with forward-looking climate policies and to drive the broader objectives of Net-Zero carbon emissions by 2050. Our mission is to build a science-based center of excellence within Sustainalytics and Morningstar. The Climate Solutions business unit will develop research and build products and tools that enable the assessment of how companies manage their business in the face of worsening climate change and as we transition to a low-carbon economy.
The Carbon Mitigation Research Oversight Analyst (on Climate Change) will support our research teams with interpreting the relevant regulatory developments, such as the EU Action Plan and TCFD reporting initiatives, developing IP, and implementing related research methodologies. Furthermore, the Analyst will monitor new developments and support research teams with clarifying, developing, and implementing new research guidance.
This role aims to provide input for content inquiries and perform quality checks on research content to ensure qualitative deliveries to clients. Next to joining calls with internal and external stakeholders representing the research team, it is also expected that the content specialist helps improve analyst and indicator guidance documentation.
Job Responsibilities
Develop Intellectual Property:
• Develop expertise in understanding Climate-related regulations and be able to translate this into research requirements;
• Track developments in climate-related issues, including current and emerging thematic trends, drivers, key players, best practices, the regulatory landscape, etc., and explain to climate analysts how these developments might influence their research findings/ assessments;
• Provide climate-related insights, supporting the development of whitepapers or other Sustainalytics’ thought-leadership pieces;
Content Leadership at the Research Team level:
• Develop a deep understanding of each indicator as defined by the Climate Solutions’ suite of products, interpret corporate disclosure on carbon;
• Support the research teams in making robust assessments in corner cases where guidance does not suffice;
• Support the development of a strategy to enhance climate-related content skills among analysts and implement the capacity-building program;
• Contribute to the improvement of analyst guidance and training on the Climate Solutions’ suite of products;
• Perform content quality checks on the research;
Support Clients and Prospects:
• Provide service/support to the Global Client Relations and Product teams in responding to client inquiries, as needed, in calls and in e-mails;
• Support the Issuer Relations team in providing high-quality responses for issuers;
• Collaborate with colleagues across global teams and offices.
Qualifications
• 4-6+ years of related work experience (research and/or consulting);
• Degree(s) in a related discipline (business, sustainability and/or environmental engineering);
• Strong oral and written communication in English;
• Strong knowledge of international and regional standards, taxonomies, and regulatory initiatives relevant to climate change;
• Knowledge of sustainable and responsible investment and debt capital markets;
• Technical expertise related to energy, carbon and/or industrial processes;
• Experience in research is an asset;
• Strong analytical skills, analytical entrepreneurialism and critical thinking are key;
• Client-centric approach;
• Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn in a constantly evolving and fast-paced environment;
• Accuracy and attention to detail;
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills;
