As Editor of Insurance Product Reviews, you will work with the research team to come up with methodologies for determining the best insurance companies, as well as assign and edit product reviews, comparisons, and “best of” lists of consumer and small business insurance products. You will be responsible for making sure we have the most thorough, well-researched, reliable, and insightful insurance content to educate and empower readers so they can take the next step, whatever it is.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of insurance products—especially life insurance and Medicare—and have demonstrated experience creating reviews of insurance companies, as well as of comparative ratings and “top” lists of various insurance products. Such products include life, health, Medicare, travel, car, home, and commercial insurance.
We are willing to flex the title and compensation for a candidate with more experience.
About Your Contributions
Work with the Associate Editorial Director in the category, other product-review editors, and in-house research leads to develop rating methodologies and editorial guidelines designed to deliver the highest quality and most actionable advice in the category.
Function as subject-matter expert for insurance.
Work with SEO team members and tools to identify new content opportunities and improvements for existing content in our insurance-reviews corpus.
Source and on-board high-quality new freelance writers as needed, sending out paperwork and approving monthly invoices.
Assign, edit, and publish new reviews and top lists of financial institutions and products.
About You
3+ years of experience editing personal finance content.
1+ years of experience writing or editing insurance content, in particular, editing life insurance content.
1+ years of experience publishing financial product reviews and recommendations, ideally on insurance products.
Experience developing and executing methodologies for evaluating financial products.
Strong editorial skills and keen sense of how to develop content that serves a targeted reader needs.
Demonstrated experience working with staff and freelance editors and writers to create great content at scale.
Excellent project management skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, and verbal/written communication skills.
Self-starter who can develop scrappy solutions to solve challenges impeding your roadmap.
Strong desire to help make people smarter in their financial lives.

Pay Range
Salary: $62,400 - $85,000The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Dotdash Meredith’s total compensation package for employees. Other compensation may include annual bonuses, and short- and long-term incentives. Specific duties include:
1.The incumbent is responsible for developing, drafting, revising, publishing, and maintaining procedures and procedural guidance that is consistent with legislation regulations, and court decisions, and for ensuring that VBA's field personnel have access to most current and accurate procedures and procedural guidance for operations:
2.Keeps the supervisor apprised of program status and progress and consults with the supervisor on controversial matters. Serves as the technical expert to the Chief who serves as the technical expert to the Assistant Director, Deputy Executive Director(s), and Executive Director of Compensation Service.
3.May represent the Chief in conducting, managing, and overseeing the Governance Board meetings to discuss and decide substantive procedural guidance proposals (or requests for M21-1 revisions or updates) to CS Staffs, Office of Field Operations, Appeals Management Office, and Pension and Fiduciary Service for decision and concurrence on the appropriate action that should be taken, i.e., M21-1 procedural guidance update or additional training, etc.
4.Establishes, reviews, publishes, and manages the procedural guidance in the M21- 1 and provides updates on the maintenance schedule of revisions to the M21-1. Responsible or reassigning workload among the Manual Editors on the Procedures staff and for ensuring that business systems and system functionality, correspondence, and forms are aligned with updated or revised procedures.
5.Plans and develops internal standard operating procedures for M21-1-relatedactivities to enhance CS delivery and to reduce risk and liability. This includes developing and interpreting policies and current methodologies in revising procedural guidance and developing and adopting internal procedures and controls necessary to allow management to streamline current processes for more efficient and effective delivery of work products.
6.Manages multiple projects or programs concurrently where effort involves coordination among multiple resources, other divisions, or agents outside of the organization.
7.Prepares white papers, background briefings, and in-depth presentations to assist management in the formulation of procedure and policy decisions. Prepares specific program responses and other special reports. Prepares clear and concise documents.
8.Assists in developing and updating procedural guidance, drafts policy letters as necessary, writes briefing papers, talking points, and responds to congressional and external stakeholder inquiries.
9.Acts as CS representative on project assignments, special project teams, and various inter/intra agency work groups.
10.Leads in-house efforts and participates actively as a team member or sub-group leaders on project teams involving participants outside of VBA. The incumbent is a senior specialist in processing claims for CS benefits program. In this capacity, the incumbent in-depth analyses of relevant issues, developing guidance for use by others, recommending program policy, and providing authoritative advice and guidance. Work involves analyses of complicated programs such as requirements for new information systems, changes in management practices, operational guidelines, etc. The incumbent may be assigned to projects involving the need to adapt to significant changes in benefit policies and/or may be expected to recommend approaches to handling claims benefits.
