Introduction
The Psychologist will work as a part of Curtin University Malaysia’s Health Division team. The post will provide: a full range of psychological intervention and academic consultation, consultancy to staff on issues related to student, group programs, required disability services and promotion of Health Division services.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Management
- Perform psychological assessments to appraise cognitive, emotional, intellectual and behavioral functioning of clients referred to Curtin University Malaysia’s Counselling & Disability Services.
- Undertake individual, couple and group interventions with clients (students, staff and their significant others), utilizing a variety of methodologies including behavior and cognitive therapy and systemic intervention.
- Provide consultation and liaise with academics and external agencies to identify strategies to help individual cope with a range of psycho-social issues, e.g. mental illness, psychological problems, disability/illness, acculturation and adjustment difficulties.
- Participate in Curtin University Malaysia’s Office of Student Affairs, interdepartmental, and committees meetings for the exchange of current and accurate information regarding clients, the service and the university context.
Education and Research
- Contribute to the knowledge base of Curtin University Malaysia’s Health Division team in the field of psychology through the provision of one-to-one briefings and contributions to discussion in team meetings.
- Develop and implement preventative educational workshops and programs.
- Participate in research and write research reports.
- Participate in department’s written / verbal reportings.
Evaluation and Planning
- Assist in collection and analysis of data for the evaluation of services provided by Curtin University Malaysia’s Health Division.
- Contribute to Curtin University Malaysi’s Health Division planning and prioritisation of services and identification of relevant performance indicators.
Professional Development
- Maintain currency of knowledge through attendance at conferences, seminars and workshops and accessing relevant literature in journals.
Quality Assurance
- Participate in accreditation of Curtin University Malaysia’s Health Division and required academic accreditation.
Basic Qualifications
- Must posses a degree in Psychology or Counselling or equivalent.
- Qualified to be registered and maintain membership with related professional bodies.
- Essential knowledge and competencies:
- Demonstrated knowledge of short-term methods of intervention for clients with high support needs.
- Proven ability to liaise effectively with a range of other professionals and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct assessments and to apply psychological interventions relevant to the needs of a culturally diverse tertiary student population.
- Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills including computer literacy with email and internet.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the needs of students.
