Job Summary - Director, Infection Prevention
In collaboration with physician and infection prevention leadership at each site (including ambulatory and post-acute) responsible for establishing and maintaining the quality standards for the work of all Corewell Health regional Infection Prevention & Epidemiology staff and initiatives. Reports to the Vice President for Quality and Safety. Collaborates with the Physician Leader for the Infection Prevention.
Directly supports the Corewell Health Quality Safety and Experience Officer for the region. Providing administrative support in setting the priorities and organizing the work obtaining appropriate input internally and externally, set agendas, develop quality standards and implement best practices. This work will be completed in partnership with the Vice President Quality Safety and Experience. Sets the priorities to the Infection Prevention and Epidemiology Clinical Care Program to develop and implement improvement plans.
Regional lead for all programs for Infection and Prevention and Epidemiology across Corewell Health region. Partners across the regions to ensure alignment in practice and learning. Matrix reporting of all staff in Infection Prevention and Epidemiology. Involved in staff/leaders' evaluations, hiring and interviewing for all positions. This position will be the lead and coordinator for all outbreaks, and epidemiologic issues at Corewell Health working with Clinical and operational leaders. They are appointed by the Quality Safety Experience Board Subcommittee to be the designated Infection Prevention officer along with the Medical Director of Infection Prevention.
Essential Functions - Director, Infection Prevention
- Empowers the team in using current infection prevention research and other quantitative data, and in the analysis and synthesis of plans to mitigate risks related to infections, streamlining of processes or to improve performance.
- Oversees the deployment of internal consulting team. Serves as an internal consultant by providing guidance on cleaning, disinfection and sterilization practices and products, construction projects, and in policy/procedure review or development.
- Creates a culture where the team utilizes quality improvement activities to stabilize processes, reduce variation, and improve outcomes to establish a culture of safe and infection free care. Oversees and initiates improvement projects for the team.
- Models active listening, effective communication, and diplomacy behaviors to influence the strategic direction of the region with respect to infection prevention.
- Monitors, coaches, and guides the surveillance and investigative efforts to ensure work product is credible. Partners with leadership and external agencies on driving improvements.
- Oversees the operational direction of the department, including staff, budgeting, and team culture. Provides strategic direction, anticipates industry changes, and leads on infection prevention.
- Oversees educational and presentation material of the team ensuring accuracy of content, and appropriateness for audience. Develops presentations to educate or persuade audiences on best practices.
Qualifications - Director, Infection Prevention
- Required Bachelor's Degree Nursing, medical technology. or education related to epidemiology
- Preferred Master's Degree Master's degree or experience equivalent including Master of Public Health
- 7 years of relevant experience Clinical or Infection Prevention Experience Required
- 5 years of relevant experience Demonstrated ability to lead (formally or informally) individuals and teams Required
- 2 years of relevant experience Participation on Improvement initiatives Required
- LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) - STATE_MI State of Michigan required Or
- CRT-Medical Technologist, Certified (MT) - ASCP American Society for Clinical Pathology required Or
- CRT-Infection Prevention and Control, Certified - CBIC Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc 3 Yrs required
- CRT-Professional in Patient Safety, Certified - IHI Institute for Healthcare Improvement preferred
- CRT-At least one Certification from preferred list - UNKNOWN Unknown Institute for Healthcare improvement (IHI), IHI Open School preferred
