The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders (CVMD) Programme houses state-of-the-art technologies for profiling mitochondrial function and metabolic adaptations in human patients and other model organisms, and undertakes translational and clinical research in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.

Professor Yen’s laboratory has a long-lasting interest in hepatic lipid metabolism. The research focuses in the area of thyroid hormone action, autophagy, mitochondrial function, and their dysregulation during metabolic liver diseases such as non-acholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the most prevalent chronic liver disease in the world. Based on their discoveries of novel molecular pathogenesis during NAFLD, Prof Yen’s laboratory aims to develop new intervention strategy and/or agents for NAFLD treatment.

The selected candidate will perform a variety of functions related to research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate: -

• Animal handling (mouse), in particular mice models of metabolic diseases (obesity and NAFLD), performing glucose and insulin tolerance tests, MRI and related experiments.
• Perform cell culture and molecular biology experiments (e.g. cell line maintaining, protein extraction, RNA extraction, analysis of mRNA expression (qPCR), western blotting).
• Bacterial culture and molecular cloning.
