The post holder will be required to lead and develop the International Nurse Training Programme, to ensure the nurses are adequately prepared for their OSCE and for joining the clinical practice areas and will be responsible for the development, implementation, audit, monitoring, and review of the programme, ensuring compliance with NMC standards and clinical guidelines. Key requirements: Coordinate the organisation of training, development and clinical support for the international nurses and return to practice nurses to meet the needs of the service. Be responsible for the development of training material to support the NMC Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) training to prepare the nurses for sitting the exam. Work alongside learners to ensure they are given every opportunity to integrate into the working environment and complete their competencies. Promote effective communication between clinical areas and the learning and development team to facilitate the transition of the learners between trainee and qualified practitioner Support inter-professional learning activities across the Trust Support the clinical skills activity team in the development and delivery of clinical skills training to multi-professional personnel across the Trust. MAIN DUTIES Assist the Clinical Skills Lead in the continuing development of the NMC OSCE programme. Organise and deliver a training programme to the newly appointed nurse recruits to ensure that they have the appropriate skills and knowledge in preparedness for sitting the NMC OSCE. Organise and deliver the NMC OSCE programme to ensure that the new recruits have the skills and competence to ensure the safe, personal, and effective delivery of patient care when working in the clinical environment. Support with the recruitment of nurses onto the international nurse programme and return to practice programmes. Ensure that practice and training is aligned to the NMC OSCE guidelines and training follows the NMC code of conduct and Royal Marsden Clinical Guidelines. Provide assistance, if necessary, in supporting and working alongside the international nurses within the clinical environment during their transition period from band 3 to competent registered practitioner. Act as a link between education and clinical areas to ensure an understanding of the OSCE process, the transition period and what support the international nurses need within the clinical areas- identifying where they need support and education to develop their skills and gain competence. Work alongside the clinical skills and preceptorship lead, ward managers and matrons in developing an information package surrounding the OSCE process for clinical areas. Support the clinical education team in the development and provision of clinical skills training to ensure that the workforce has the necessary skills and competence in the safe delivery of patient care. Will need to have flexible working pattern, to work across hospital sites, and occasionally work outside of core hours to facilitate training Must hold a full driving licence and have access to a car for travel purposes across sites. Prioritise workload to allow desktop work time for inputting registers; using emails for communication; MS Teams meetings/ webinars; creating course content and generating of the reports. COMMUNICATION Ensure effective daily communication between the different teams within the education department in order to deliver training. Lead in circumstances where barriers to communication exist and support less experienced staff in this process Liaise effectively with the lead recruitment nurse and other members of the wider multi-disciplinary team in supporting the recruitment process of international nurses and return to practice nurses. Maintain and promote effective communication within the team. Be conversant with and share all departmental and Trust communications. Develop practice-based teaching programmes in conjunction with the clinical skills team and the ward managers to enhance support for the staff when working within clinical areas. Liaise with occupational health and ward managers to ensure the nurses are ready to work in the clinical areas. Support the ward managers and matron by acting as a key point of liaison with the learning and development team and individual staff members to ensure the understanding of the OSCE process and that the needs of the nurses are met and supported within the clinical areas. Provide weekly reports to the clinical skills and preceptorship lead on the progress of the nurses and escalate any difficulties which are preventing progress. Prepare monthly reports for the senior management team regarding the progress of each training group; difficulties that have arisen; provide the monthly statistics for nurses undergoing training, awaiting to sit or re-sit the OSCE, pass and fail rates, nurses that have joined the NMC register. Provide tri-annual reports for the senior management team that show retention statistics in trust for international nurses, and return to practice nurses who have been recruited onto the programme. Develop communications across the system with other international nurse tutors within local trusts to keep updated in best practice and align practice across the local hospital systems. Be able to manage staff members where there may be anger or distress in relation to performance, capabilities, or if they have failed in their exams Be proficient with Information Technology- able to use Microsoft Teams including for the delivery of training; excel spreadsheets and Microsoft word in recording information and for generating reports. Be able to use Visual Display Units (VDUs) to support teaching. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT Take responsibility for maintaining own professional registration and pursuing own professional development. Willingness to undertake training as required for the development of the post to include train the trainer courses across clinical skills activities. Undergo annual appraisals and be responsible for maintaining a personal development plan, recognise and identify own development needs and participate in the annual review process. Ensure compliance with mandatory training and essential training relevant to role such as medicines management and patient care learning modules to support up to date training. Encourage the appropriate sharing of knowledge and skills within the team and involve other staff in their delivery of training as required. Deliver education and training packages on an individual or group basis Be able to work autonomously in assessing and evaluating the learning needs of the group and deliver training based on these needs. Maintain and provide records of all training activities and gather feedback from trainees to enable evaluation processes. Support junior members of the team in training on the programme. ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Be responsible for supporting and delivering the provision of training, development and clinical support for both international nurses and return to practice nurses. Act as an expert resource on the international nurse programme throughout the Trust surrounding NMC registration processes. Attend monthly meetings to update the senior management team on OSCE programme developments Actively promote equal opportunities for access to education to all staff from all backgrounds and support Trust policy in relation to equality and diversity rights. Ensure all records and information used as part of the training is managed as per NMC guidelines and Trust policies... Act upon any concerns raised by staff, patients or the public in line with Trust policies. Support the clinical skills team in analysing and presenting data obtained through monthly audits and other feedback mechanisms to improve and develop practice. Act on this data to identify any areas of practice development that are needed to support clinical areas in facilitating changes in practice. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain professional registration within the NMC and comply with statutory requirements. Adhere, uphold and promote professional and organisational regulations, policies and procedures Act as a role model exploiting every opportunity to enhance the knowledge of others relating to clinical skills and to promote health and safety and risk assessment. Develop and maintain specialist knowledge across a range of procedures related to clinical skills education to promote clinical credibility. Manage and prioritise own workload. Maintain up to date knowledge of developments and best practice on issues affecting education and research in line with service development. Possess developed communication skills to enable excellent communication with the wider MDT. Attend mandatory updates as required. Participate and lead developmental activities as required and contribute to the development of training guidelines and protocols.
