The Clinical R&D Engineer II is responsible for providing engineering leadership in the creation and the development of new medical device products (invasive and non-invasive). You will be accountable for researching, developing, designing test models, and evaluating mechanical and electro-mechanical materials, components, assemblies, processes and/or equipment. In addition, you will conduct feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality and develop new concepts from initial design to market release. The Clinical R&D Engineer II will also direct support personnel and coordinate project activities.

Responsibilities: 

• Utilize multidisciplinary engineering knowledge to design and develop innovative new products in the dynamic structural heart space where Abbott is a leading provider of solutions.
• Understands user needs and aids in setting appropriate requirements to capture those needs.
• Performs technical planning and performance evaluation studies.
• Evaluates prototypes formally and informally through structured and ad hoc testing. Test aspects of new projects or sub-systems to evaluate prototypes and validate output to meet intended use requirements.
• Evaluates customer satisfaction and device performance through end user testing (simulated use, pre-clinical, and/ or usability), analysis and studies.
• Provides clinical, usability and system level technical guidance and support to teams as appropriate.
• Evaluates the system user interface (device controls, IFU, training, etc.) formally and informally through structured and ad hoc testing. Tests aspects of the system user interface to evaluate prototype usability with end users and validate user interface is safe and effective.
• Provides input into the development of clinical system validation plans and the conduct of those tests.
• Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.
• Investigates and evaluates existing technologies.
• Establishes and cultivates an extensive network of support to facilitate completion of assignments.
• Participates in the development of less experienced staff by setting an example, providing guidance and work direction, and offering counsel.
• Participates in determining goals and objectives for projects and may lead projects.
• Influences middle management on technical or business solutions.
• Plans and organizes non-routine tasks w/approval.
• Initiates or maintains work schedule.
• Establishes priorities of work assignments.
• Exercises judgment in selecting innovative, practical methods to achieve problem resolution.

Qualifications:

Required (Must be evident on your resume)

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or other related engineering field. Master’s Degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering or equivalent preferred.
• 2+ years of engineering experience, primarily in R&D or clinical engineering
• Medical device experience
• Knowledge of statistical techniques and design of experiments
• Knowledge of human factors engineering
• Knowledge of animal models and animal study design
• Knowledge of anatomical model development
• Experience in a Quality System environment
• Baseline clinical knowledge of cardiac function.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively integrate information from varied disciplines including Clinical Medicine, Engineering, Marketing and Regulatory Affairs
• Previous experience working in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment

Responsibilities:

• Establish capabilities in Biomolecular MD Simulation and phase behavior of bio membrane.
• Setting up models (script + automation).
• Need to work on multiscale modeling of interfaces of different nature, in biology and materials science.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• At least having two years Postdoc experience.
• The applicant must have the Up-to-date knowledge and hands on experience on molecular dynamics simulations methods such as Atomistic, Coarse Grain Molecular Dynamics(CGMD), & Dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) and computational chemistry (Quantum, QM/MM etc.).
• The applicant should have a strong background in Bio-membrane (Lipid Bilayer) MD simulations involved in fundamental biological processes or Gel Network Simulation.
• The applicant should have a strong background and hands on experience on Polymers/Natural Polymer MD simulations (Atomistic and CGMD).
• Development and implementation of algorithms and software for molecular simulations and programming skills (Perl, Python, C++, etc.) are desirable.
• Previous experience in combining simulations with Analytical experiments and Finite Element Modeling are a plus.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills are required. Ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary collaborative environment is expected.
