Primary Details Time Type: Full time Worker Type: Employee The Data Governance Analyst is responsible for developing and embedding data governance capabilities across the region. They will work with data management teams to ensure that data is secure and accessible when needed. They may also be responsible for creating data management plans, which outline how data is created, stored, accessed and disposed of. Support the management and attestation of data quality ensuring QBE achieves Solvency II compliance and the establishment of best practice across the business. Primary Responsibilities • Implementation of the long-term data excellence strategy •Analysis of data governance issues, including root-cause, opportunity and resolution •Definition and prioritisation of data governance activities •Managements of data governance activities and tasks to completion by collaborating with key stakeholders •Development and management of policies, processes and standards regarding data •Communication and coordination of Data Governance Council and Committee Members •Enforcement of the data policy and standards for compliance and integrity in the consumption, manipulation and maintenance of data •Tracking, prioritisation and reporting of data governance metrics and issues to key stakeholders •Capturing requirements, recommending, planning for and monitoring data governance activities •Preparing for the Data Governance Council by ensuring all stakeholders are informed of the latest status of each action and the issues to be raised at the next meeting •Log, coordinate, and assist in the implementation of actions coming out of the Data Governance Working Group and the Data Governance Council •Manage and coordinate resolution of data governance issues across the data landscape •Develop and maintain the Business Glossary •Lead the governance activities managed in Collibra and in general data management too •Be an advocate for data governance and promote data management best practices consistently across •Set-up, configuration and implementation of Collibra, a cloud-based data governance platform that allows the organisation to effectively define, track and manage their data assets •Ensure every data asset is catalogued in Collibra and ownership assigned to a responsible party •Ensure the relationship of every data asset is thoroughly documented in Collibra •Ensure capabilities of Collibra are maximised and fully utilised and embed cross the organisation to ensure thorough understanding of the data and any and all relationships that exist between the data and the other business assets that make use of that data, such as reports, applications or processes, for example •Lead the implementation of Collibra and provide the organisation with a comprehensive knowledge base which will act as a self-service, online library of everything there is to know about the data landscape •Be an advocate for data governance and promote metadata management best practice and educated business users on best use of Collibra to promote continuous improvement •Develop a library of training modules that support effective rollout of Collibra •Develop and deliver a tailored training plan to rollout Collibra to all business users •Ensure Collibra processes are fully documented and referenced in line with agreed processes and formats •Develop data glossaries for key business processes/capabilities (e.g. mapping out the attributes, and how they are transformed, during the data lifecycle) •Create data flow and data mapping diagrams for specific processes/capabilities •Create data lineage diagrams for specific processes/capabilities •Be able to create a basic logical data model outlining key entities, attributes, and relationships •Develop, document and embed data governance processes across the organisation •Communicate reasons for data issues to technical and non-technical users •Develop the case to make business decisions due to data issues identified •Tailor the message for different stakeholders (technology, business, executive) •Propose a range of solutions to any identified issues, the pros and cons of each, and which is the preferred remedy and why •Communicate with business users to explain the importance of data governance and how it can help the company •Communicate with other departments to ensure they understand the data excellence strategy and how it can benefit the company •Responsible for the Solvency II data governance framework and responsible for driving through full compliance with all data quality related areas of Solvency II and further Lloyd's regulatory requirements •Manage and enhance the relationships between the cross functional data quality teams and key business stakeholders to ensure data quality governance is compliant with Solvency II requirements and best practice •Data Directory - ensure the Data Directory project activities supporting the completion of the Solvency II work stream are successfully completed. Review and agree the ongoing support requirements of the Data Directory and therein provide support to ongoing compliance •Data Quality Assessments - lead the roll-out of the half-yearly self-assessment and attestation data quality process across the business in support of Solvency II compliance. Responsible for agreeing remediation and action plans with the business, reporting on the findings and gaining formal review and sign-off from the Head of Capital Modelling and the Chief Actuary •User Defined Applications - responsible for managing the UDA process to ensure robust assessments and process management is in place to manage the risk posed by user defined applications and to ensure compliance with Solvency II Preferred Competencies/Skills • Business analysis and requirements gathering skills •Communication and stakeholder management skills •Highly computer literate and numerate with an advanced ability in the use of spread sheets and relational database concepts •Ability to carry out integrity checks at a data level •Ability to contribute to the build of a business model diagram to illustrate business use of data •Ability to interpret and align multiple stakeholders' requirements, setting clear expectations to support timely delivery •Strong interpersonal and communication skills at all levels •Excellent time-management skills •Uses effective approaches to remain aware of external factors that influence data usage within the organization Preferred Experience • Experience producing specifications detailing solutions for approval by users and for technical use by developers and testers would be beneficial •Experience using structured analytical techniques •Experience within a data management environment with a hands on business role or an IT equivalent operational background •Hands-on experience of database tools or languages (SQL/ PL-SQL/ Oracle/ Sybase) and a wide variety of (large volume) data sources •Previous experience in insurance, preferably Lloyd's based •Solid experience in a customer facing / support environment •Solid experience training end users in data usage •Strong experience working with business representatives to identify and document business requirements •Experience of working with a variety of methods and software tools to analyze and measure data Preferred Knowledge • Strong understanding of key insurance metrics and underlying QBE information elements •Good awareness of the systems development lifecycle and disciplines •Broad awareness of industry standard analysis techniques and approaches •Broad awareness and understanding of data governance standards/requirements. •Understanding of requirement capture and management tools and their capabilities •Good working knowledge of the data elements of the Solvency II regulations is required QBE Cultural DNA • Everything we do at QBE is underpinned by our DNA (which interlinks seven cultural elements) - because we know it's not just what we do that matters, it's how we do it that makes the difference.
