Summary of Job Duties:
The University of Arkansas is seeking a skilled and experienced Network Technician Manager to lead our dynamic team of part-time network technicians. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing the daily operations, administrative needs, professional growth, and metrics reporting of the team. This position requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to ensure the seamless functioning of our network infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
(50%) Team Management and Administrative Oversite:
• Supervise and provide leadership to a team of part-time network technicians.
• Drive the recruitment process by writing job descriptions, conducting interviews, and making strategic hiring decisions to maintain a consistently filled and high-performing team.
• Conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews to foster professional growth and development.
• Manage administrative tasks related to the network team, including scheduling, resource allocation, and equipment procurement.
• Develop and maintain documentation for network configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Collaborate with other teams to address cross-functional requirements and maintain effective communication channels.
(25%) Daily Operations:
• Oversee the daily operations of the network technicians, ensuring the reliability and security of the network infrastructure.
• Manage the assignment and resolution of incident and service requests via the department’s ITSM tool.
• Enforce best practices, as set by the engineering team, for network configuration, security, and performance.
(20%) Professional Growth:
• Identify and support professional development opportunities for team members, including training programs and certifications.
• Foster a collaborative and learning-focused environment to enhance the skills and knowledge of the team.
• Coordinate and optimize a mentor program, ensuring effective mentor-mentee pairings, regular communication, and measurable impact on professional development.
(5%) Metrics Reporting:
• Establish and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) for the network team.
• Prepare regular reports on team performance, network health, and project status for management.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
At least three years of experience in network administration and management
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
Industry-recognized certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+)
Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the qualifications listed above.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience managing networks in a large enterprise with 1000+ employees
Experience in network management within the higher education sector
Proven ability to implement and oversee network infrastructure projects at an enterprise scale
Familiarity with industry-specific compliance and security standards
Track record of successful collaboration with cross-functional teams in complex organizational environments
