As an Actuarial Analyst for our Model Assurance team, you will be working with a dedicated and close-knit team to deliver key model review initiatives.

In this role you will have the unique opportunity to make a change and become a champion for better data and modelling practices within TAL.  Working from a first-principles approach, you will be able to challenge existing methodologies and models (including Prophet) to allow for improvement in the ways of working and sustainable model development.

We are seeking an Actuarial Analyst to join our dynamic, fast growing APAC Reserving team. The role will be based in our Singapore office. The job holder will be a key contributor to different reserving related activities across the APAC L&H business. 

About the team:

The direct team is made up of 12 employees based between the Singapore and Hong Kong Offices and is part of a larger global team based in the main offices internationally.

Key Skills:

• Working as part of the reserving team in performing actuarial valuation of APAC L&H business under various bases (including USGAAP, Solvency II, IFRS17, Local Statutory)

Main Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

1. Work with a multitude of internal and external stakeholders (consultants, industry workgroups, government ministries/agencies etc) on actuarial and insurance-related tasks and projects.

2. Setup and perform ongoing enhancement of the actuarial processes and workflow (covering modelling, valuation, experience studies, key risk monitoring, pricing analysis etc) to manage insurance schemes.

3. Operationalise regulatory framework and industry best practices for insurance schemes.

4. Conduct research on actuarial approaches relevant for insurance schemes.

5. Leverage on data analytics to conduct actuarial analyses to support the Board’s initiatives to benefit members.

What we are looking for:

1. At least 3 to 6 years of actuarial experience with robust technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

2. Good knowledge of actuarial principles, methods, and practices, with the ability to apply them effectively in a business context.

3. Proficiency in FIS insurance risk suite (Prophet) and expertise in data analytics/statistical programming (e.g., Python and Power BI) is advantageous.

4. Good understanding of the current regulatory framework and industry practices.

5. Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.

6. A strong passion for delivering high-quality work and devising solutions for challenging industry issues.

7. Good progress in professional actuarial qualifications is preferred.

Position Summary:

The Sr. Financial Analyst will report to Illumina’s R&D Finance team. The successful candidate will support budget planning, forecasts, monthly operational/financial reviews and other ad hoc projects in support of the Research and Development Organization. This person will utilize strong business acumen, deep financial expertise and solid communication to become an effective partner within the organization.

*This person must be able to commute to our San Diego HQ at least once every 2 weeks.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as a financial business partner for the Research and Development Organization, building key relationships and supporting the achievement of the department’s priorities and key objectives
• Review operating expenses and capital expenditures to understand variances and improve future forecasts
• Assist in the development of monthly packages to be utilized for financial management reporting, including variance explanations, forecast updates, scenario building and other analyses
• Assist in the development of the long range forecast, annual operating plan (budget) and manage monthly and quarterly forecast updates
• Assist in the monthly/quarter-end close process by reviewing open purchase orders and coordinating with various business partners to estimate incurred expenses to inform forecast updates
• Utilize financial systems to complete tasks (i.e. Cognos TM1, Cognos BI, and SAP)
• Analyze, synthesize and translate data into key strategic inputs and insights that will drive strategic decision making at the executive level
• Acquire comprehensive understanding of Illumina’s technologies, products and market segments
• Provide financial modeling for new investment opportunities, analytics, and general internal Finance support to the Research and Development organization
• Provide insight and consolidated information to the Enterprise FP&A team to support Board of Directors decks, corporate performance reports, cost savings initiatives and dashboards

Requirements:

• 5+ years total Finance experience, preferably in a high growth environment
• Strong hands-on experience with SAP is preferred; exposure to Cognos TM1 is a plus
• Attention to details, strong analytical background as it pertains to understanding and explaining variances
• Ability to influence cross functionally and solve complex problems
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills required; Must be comfortable working with and analyzing large data files
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, able to establish strong rapport and partnerships at all levels of the organization
• Self-directed and able to work well in a team environment

Education:

• BS or BA in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field

The estimated base salary range for the Senior Financial Analyst, R&D (Hybrid) role based in the United States of America is: $80,900 - $121,300. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
