PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Hiring Salary for this position: $16/hourly
This is classified as a VHNE (Variable Hour Non-benefit Employee), this position do not provide medical benefits. The position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.
The City of Aurora is seeking a part-time staff member that will provide assistance with the implementation and facilitation of therapeutic recreation programs, classes, and activities with individuals of all ages and varying abilities.
Programs' locations and times will vary during the day, evening, and weekends. The City of Aurora is committed to supporting individuals with disabilities in recreation programs. Under the supervision of "full time ARISE staff member", provide assistance with the implementation & facilitation of therapeutic recreation programs for all ages of individuals with varying abilities
Responsible for assisting with year-round programs including days, nights, and weekends.
Effectively communicates with parents, teachers, therapists or guardians, providing appropriate answers and follow up information as necessary
Ability to show courtesy, dignity, and redirection for participants of all ability levels
Provides a safe and supportive learning environment for all participants
Provides adaptations to accommodate the ability level of all participants
Completes documentation step of TR process as required
Provides support and guidance to participants in need of 3rd party transportation services, to ensure safe arrival and departure from program
Operation and before/after use inspections of 13 passenger bus for weekly excursions and overnight trips; operation of wheelchair lift as needed
Performs other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Preferred Qualifications:
College education in Therapeutic Recreation, education, human services or a related field
Certifications similar or related to Water Safety Instructor
Knowledge:
Familiar with Therapeutic Recreation process
Disability diagnoses, trends, and issues

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Requires a valid driver's license; Must be able to complete all requirements related to operating a City of Aurora vehicle (including clearing a Motor Vehicle Record check); City of Aurora's defensive driving course
Requires certification in CPR/First Aid within (6 months of hire), must be kept current as condition of continued employment
