Summary of duties

• Under the direct supervision of the Chief Engineer & Director of Engineering.
• Responsible for the proper maintenance of the physical plant, engineering facilities, and interior & exterior of the entire hotel. Directs the engineering policies in accordance with the standards laid down.
• Directly supervises the Duty Engineers, M&E Engineer, and B&D Engineer.

Major responsibilities

• Directs & coordinates the work of the hotel engineering department.
• Delegates authority to personnel under his direction to carry out their responsibilities and objectives to ensure the correct functions of the physical plant and the smooth running of the department.
• Recommends to the Chief Engineer / Director of Engineer changes in existing plants/services and/or the installation of new plant that will result in saving energy.

• Chief Engineer shall write his standing orders, which should reflect his requirementsand circumstances particular to the ship, her trade and the experience of the engine room team employed at that point in time.
• The standing orders and instructions by Chief Engineer should not conflict with the Company’s SMS. The standing orders should be read and understood by all the officers before the commencement of the voyage and acknowledge accordingly. A copy of the orders should be made available in the engine room for reference
• Chief Engineer should not permit the commencement of any job, which, in his opinion, adversely affects the safety of the ship or crew or contravenes any applicable regulations. Further reference on the matter is to be made immediately to Head Office.
• Chief Engineer shall maintain a Night Order Book as provided by Company.
