Purpose of Post
To select suppliers who will supply materials at the optimum acquisition cost ensuring quality standards are maintained and departmental goals achieved.

Key Task

• Responsible for maintaining the material cost on the Bill of Materials for all products within the commodities you are responsible for and ensuring costs are less than the current sales quotation per contract.
• Responsible for issuing requests for quotation (RFQ’s) for any new parts added to the Bill of Materials within the allotted components.
• Populate Sage System with the price, lead-time and supplier details as necessary.
• To manage the engineering process, to purchase new parts and ensure the suppliers are supplying to the correct revisions of drawings.
• Liaise with supplier on delivery key performance indicators – such as shortages, quality & invoice queries.
• To actively contribute to achieving departmental goals and objectives. Relating to supplier reduction and cost reductions.
• To initiate supplier agreements and see them through to implementation
• To actively contribute to New Product Introduction projects.
  Source new suppliers for items within the allocated commodities.
• Discuss with suppliers to achieve optimum batch sizes and hence reduce costs.
• To analyze the cost of manufacture of parts considering the cost of raw materials, labour costs, machining costs to ensure the company is getting value for money from the subcontracting supply base.
• To compare drawings of new parts with existing parts to ensure cost increases or decreases are justified.
• Recover money owed from suppliers for non-performance and warranty claims.

Responsibilities:

• Purchase materials, components and equipment as driven by MRP system or reorder Point system
• Drive Gross Margin Improvements through negotiations or localization with supplier on pricing, rework cost and minimizing expediting cost and purchase price variance.
• Responsible for materials lead time reduction by getting suppliers to improve cycle time, negotiating on hedges and VMI program.
• Ensure timely PO execution and address supplier’s quality, capacity, materials issues that may affect supply.
• Drive suppliers to meet on time delivery
• Active participation on business review with suppliers and provide constructive feedback to help suppliers to improve their scores
• Ensure accuracy and timeliness of claims from suppliers on ECO and EOM projects.
• Timely review and execute on ECN and ECO changes so that production is not affected.
• Develop actions to minimize excess inventory. Work with Inventory Analyst by providing recommendation during quarterly E&ND review. Follow through the action proposed.
• Drive to improve inventory turns by having quick execution on MRB and quick returns on RTV.
• Quarterly review of safety stock to ensure an optimal balance of supply vs inventory turns.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Supply Chain Management/Logistics
• Minimum 2 to 3 years of related industry experience in production planning and buying
• Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook and experience in SAP system is highly desirable
• Experience in low-volume high-mix Manufacturing environment is a plus

Hays are currently recruiting for a buyer for our client based in Aylesford. This is a full-time position and a fantastic opportunity.
Monday to Friday 8:30am - 16:30pm

Salary
£28,000 - £32,000 depending on experience.

Duties:
- Management of the stock ensuring parts are ordered in line with requirements.
- Calling supplies for new stock.
- Researching parts.
- Inputting data into the systems
- Manage relationships with all suppliers to achieve greater efficiencies and cost savings.
- Liaising with engineers and their needs.

There are thousands of parts that you would be buying. For example, they would be plumbing goods such as valves, boiler tubes etc. So manufacturing / construction knowledge would be fantastic.

My client is also looking for someone who isn't afraid to pick up the phone and call clients / suppliers rather than sending emails as this would be a fast-paced environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain Purchasing & Costing Module in ERP System which include BOM creation, updates, Suppliers Master creation and updates
• Manage day to day business relationship with key suppliers like ordering, communicating changes, problem resolution, close follow up on backorders and urgent materials
• Monitor and appraise supplier delivery performance through timely record and report of supplier's non conformance
• Trigger MRP run as and when necessary
• Issue PO and follow up on supplier's PO Acknowledgments
• Monitor inventory levels of materials, understand and emplace order lead times, close tracking on problematic suppliers
• Execute pull in, push our or cancellation request so as to prevent material shortages or excess
• Familiarity and can maintain ISO documentation for purchasing activities and ensure ISO compliance for 9001 and 14001.
• Liaise with Freight forwarders for import shipments
• Timely update suppliers delivery commitments into Purchase Order Expediting report in ERP System
• Close and effective communication with planner and storekeeper on material status
• Audit suppliers invoices on periodic basis to ensure contract pricing is being utilized

Requirements:

• Higher Secondary/Pre-U/'A' Level, Professional Certificate/NiTEC, Diploma, BSc in Business or similar
• Experience 2 - 4 in procurement or purchasing
• Experience with the SAP Business One system is a must and possess Advance Excel Skills
• Sound research and networking skills
• Good knowledge in MS Office and Search Engines
• Working days: Monday to Friday (8.30am – 6pm)
