Scientist for Advanced Photonics (Photonic Computing and Quantum Computing)

As part of IME’s Photonics & Sensors Department, the candidate will paticipate in various projects for the development of photonic computing, quantum photonics, or other photonic applications. This will include photonic circuit design, characterization, electro-optic integration, and verification of system functionalities. You will work closely with an excellent multidisciplinary team working on photonics, electronics, semiconductor process, integration, and fab operation.

Responsibilities:

• Design of photonic integrated circuits for advanced photonic applications, including but not limited to photonic computing, quantum photonics, etc.
• Development of optical testing platform for advanced photonic applications. This emphasizes on the application-specific testing with multi-channel in, multi-channel out.
• Development of electro-optic testing platform for advanced photonic applications. This focuses on the electro-optic integration and relevant high-speed control interface.
• Verification of electro-optic system functionalities. This emphasizes on the realization of targeted algorithm implemented on photonic integrated circuits, as well as data analysis, trouble-shooting and optimization.
• Preparation of technical presentations and papers for internal meetings, as well as conferences and journals.
• Collaborate with project team to ensure quality and on-time delivery for various projects. You will get a chance to expose to both industrial and academic projects.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Integrated Photonics, Microelectronics, Opto-electronics, Physics or equivalent.

For 50 per cent of the time, the successful candidate will assist the Principal Investigator, Professor Brenda Yeoh, in a funded research project entitled “Plastic Waste and Women’s Household Practices in Asia and Australia”. You will work with an interdisciplinary team of scholars based in Singapore and Australia to advance research and knowledge on the social, historical and digital practices that shape women’s household management of plastic waste. The Mechanobiology Institute, National University of Singapore is a multi-disciplinary institute committed to developing new paradigms for biomedical research by focusing on the quantitative analysis of dynamic functional processes. Through quantitative biophysical approaches, we address major problems in biomedical sciences including pathogenesis (from bacterial to cancer), tissue regeneration and function.

We are seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Fellow (Research Fellow) to join Asst. Prof. Andrew Holle’s Confinement Mechanobiology group (established in January 2021).

The Confinement Mechanobiology group's broad objective is to use mechanobiology principles and recent observations on the nature of small, fluid-filled ‘cellular highways’ in the interstitial extracellular matrix (ECM) to identify, engineer, and leverage the role of confinement in cell biology. It is interested in leveraging new molecular biology tools, including RNA-Seq, CRISPR screens, ChIP-seq, and engineered tensions sensor probes to better understand the mechanical and genetic responses of the nucleus to self-induced cellular confinement, and then extend these findings to the cytoskeleton, focal adhesions, and extracellular matrix. The MBI and NUS provide state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to microfluidics, high-resolution imaging, and cell culture that will support the fellow in training, setup, and execution of the project, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with talented and motivated research staff, interdisciplinary PIs, and clinician scientists. Applicants with unique proposals relating to confinement mechanobiology within the scope of the lab, especially in the areas of microfluidics, cellular engineering, or biomaterials development are encouraged to apply.

An experimental Postdoctoral Researcher Position in the group of Dr Ahmet Avsar at Material Science and Engineering Department of National University of Singapore is available to develop novel spintronics devices based on magnetic topological insulators.
