They Care for mainly the General Medical Patient Population, which could be patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, pneumonia, cellulitis, kidney failure, hyperglycemia, Diabetic Issues, Ulcers, Confused Elderly, Alcohol Abuse, Acute/Chronic Kidney Injury, Sepsis, Psychiatric Population.

Scope of work

Nurse Tech responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed baths, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. This job does not require CNA certification due to the extensive amount of orientation/on the job training provided.

Orientation:

The Nurse Tech role will require 2 days of training in our simulation center and 1 day of EPIC training with our Nurse Educators. These are pre-scheduled and required classes from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m

Monday: 

•  Day 1 - NT Foundations 1 – 0800-4:30 ALL New Hire NTs are required.

Tuesday:  

• NT Foundations 2 0800-1200: ALL NEW HIRE NTS are required.  

• NT Basic Skills 1:00-4:30: All new hire NTs unless exempt due to experience. (Exempt - prior recent hospital NT experience, nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation) 

Wednesday/Friday:  

• NT Sterile technique class 08:00-4:30- all except exempt students (Exempt- nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation) 

3rd week after start date - Monday- 08:00-4:30 Advanced Safety Care-all new hire NTs are required.

4 North is a 33-bed unit at Butterworth Hospital specializing in orthopedic, trauma and burn care. Our team works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary group of professionals including nursing, physicians, APPs, rehab therapists, and care managers to provide high quality, comprehensive care to our patients. Common diagnoses for our patient population include polytrauma, gunshot wounds, falls, motor vehicle accidents, burns, and orthopedic complications as a result of a traumatic injury. About the unit

5 Center is an 18 bed Oncology unit located at Butterworth Hospital. This unit specializes in the care of adult blood and marrow transplant patients. 5 Center is known for its employee’s outstanding teamwork and compassion. Patients on this unit often revisit for chemo treatments or may be readmitted for symptom management post chemo or post-transplant. Patients also often see long lengths of stays which can consist of 3-4 weeks at a time. This provides our team to get to know each patient and their family on a more personal level allowing them to provide personalized care. Due to the nature of these diagnoses’ physician relationships are a large focus and RNs and Techs will get to know the providers well.

While most of our team utilizes a traditional schedule, we also offer non-traditional scheduling options to assist with those that need full flexibility in their work schedule. 9Center is known as being a great unit to start an entry level patient care role and build great foundational skills.

For Patient Population in this unit of the hospital: Primarily Adult Medical Patients.  Diabetic Issues, Ulcers, Confused Elderly, Alcohol Abuse, Acute/Chronic Kidney Injury, Sepsis, and also Psychiatric Population. We are also one of 13 locations in the nation that has a space on our unit designated as a Special Pathogens Treatment Center. 

Job Summary

• All shifts are 12 hours: 7 p.m. - 7:30a.m.
• Full Time: 3 nights per week
• Part Time: 2 nights per week
• Part Time: 1 night shift per week, with preference given to candidates that can work Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, along with weekend rotations.
• Please note that we need more coverage beyond weekends and do not have weekend only roles.

Orientation for the first week of employment as Nurse Tech requires daytime classes:

Monday: 

•  Day 1 - NT Foundations 1 – Monday 8am -4:30 ALL New Hire NTs are required.

About the unit

7 North is a 39-bed Medical Surgical GI/GU unit located in Butterworth Hospital. This unit is known for its outstanding teamwork and welcoming atmosphere! At 7 North opportunities to learn and grow never stop due to the variety in patient population, this unit is considered a medical/surgical unit but specializes in the care of urology and surgical oncology post-operative patients as well as those with gastrointestinal diagnoses. This team stands out as being experts in nasogastric tubes, urinary catheters and urologic care, and managing the care of wounds, ostomies, tubes and drains. Examples of surgeries that may take place on 7 North include: Nephrectomy; Whipple; Cholecystectomy; Pancreatectomy; kidney donor.

Scope of work

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider.  Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.  Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that the required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
