Job Summary

The Manager – Accounts & Finance (MAF) is a member of the school management team.  Has operational responsibilities for the Department of Accounts and Finance and provide professional oversight and leadership in respect of the School’s accounts and finance.  To perform the various accounting and finance functions to ensure the School’s financial and material resources are effectively managed, reconciled and accounted for in accordance with the agreed business objectives, school policies and in compliance with relevant statutory requirements, regulations and standards and organisational regulations that govern the school’s operations. Working independently as well as in collaboration with the Board of Directors, academic leadership team and heads of non-academic departments, the key roles and responsibilities of FM are as follows:-

Financial Planning and Strategies

Develop (including review) and implement the financial plans, objectives and strategies that contribute to the effective commercial management of the School.

Work in collaboration with the Company’s Financial Advisor on all matters relating to the Company’s/School’s accounts and finance.


  • Lead and supervise the preparation of the Company’s/School’s annual budget.
  • Present the Company’s/School’s annual budget to the BoD.
  • Implement effective mechanisms for its ongoing review and ensuring that departmental heads (academic and non-academic) manage the expenditures in accordance with budget procedures.

Statutory Accounting and Reporting

  • Perform the various financial accounting functions associated with the financial statements, business reporting, statutory reports, management of the reconciliation process and other related accounting tasks in order to accurately account for all transactions carried out.
  • Supervise the accounting staff and ensure that the accounting and financial reporting systems are accurate and consistent with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Maintain all accounting records which includes general ledger, preparation of journals, accounts receivable, accounts payable and reconciliations and monthly reports to management.

Cash Management 

  • Implement effective cash management budgeting techniques including investment and borrowing opportunity assessments in order to maximise the Company’s/School’s financial resources.
  • Advise the BoD on the investment of funds and management of associated risks.
  • School Accounts/Tuition Fees
  • Administer and supervise the raising of school tuition and other related fees and control collections in a manner designed to reduce the risk exposure of the School to bad debts and maximise cash flow.

  • Administer and supervise the raising of school tuition and other related fees and control collections in a manner designed to reduce the risk exposure of the School to bad debts and maximise cash flow.
  • Analyse and present relevant financial data to support BoD decision-making in respect of any fee revision.
  • Develop and maintain a systematic documentation of all financial and accounting data of the School.


  • Provide overall supervision of the administration of payroll function.
  • Ensure payroll is administered accurately and in a timely manner and in compliance with contractual as well as statutory requirements.

Accounts Payable

  • Manage accounts payable functions to ensure that accounts payable and purchasing documents are processed efficiently, accurately in the timely manner.

Accounts Receivable

  • Manage and control accounts receivable.

Financial Policies and Procedures

  • Develop (including review) and ensure that appropriate financial policies and procedures are implemented, documented and become part of the core work of the Accounts and Finance Department.
  • Monitor policies and procedures within generally accepted accounting principles and company guidelines to ensure sufficient cash flow, reduced operating costs and increased revenues.

Financial Systems

  • Ensure (including review) the robustness of the existing school financial systems (e.g. UBS, Biztrack) taking into account any required enhancements and upgrades.
  • Review the financial management needs of the Company/School and propose new systems and processes to support this need where appropriate.

Periodical Reports to the BoD

  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly and annual statements for the BoD or as requested by the BoD
  • Review prior financial results and advise BoD on anticipated changes, future needs and trends.
  • Prepare financial summaries and forecasts for future business growth.

School Ancillary Business Operations

  • Provide advice on the business operations of the School’s ancillary business operations e.g. School Bookshop
  • Coordinate the provision of financial accounting support to Parents Association and Alumni Association Foundation when required.


  • Oversee the conduct of periodic internal audit and statutory audit by auditors and ensure compliance to internal and external auditor's reports.
  • Prepare supporting documents and schedules for the Company’s annual audit
  • Report non-compliance issues to the BoD.


  • Responsible to legally minimise tax liabilities through informed application of tax laws and regulations 
  • Manage tax compliance, reporting, and filing works for the BoD.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all corporate and personnel income tax and GST returns (if any)
  • Act as the key point of contact and support for our local taxation matters 
  • Liaise with tax authorities and provide tax audit support for the BoD
  • Manage external tax authorities and consultants
  • Review current and deferred tax provision
  • Provide internal tax advisory services and support on business operation matters to the Group

Training and Development

  • Lead the delivery of training modules pertaining to school budgeting process, procedures on finance, accounts and purchasing at staff inductions and as part of school’s training and development program.

General Responsibilities

  • Prepare annual departmental budget and monitor departmental expenditure.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisal for staff under the Department of Accounts and Finance.
  • Manage ISO-related process within the Department of Accounts and Finance.
  • Obtain insurance coverage, such as liability, property, and course-of-construction insurance.
  • To undertake any other duties reasonably delegated by BoD.



  • A recognised University Degree in Accounting/Finance or other Professional Accounting qualification is preferred.
  • At least 6 Year(s) of working experience in the related field. Preferably Manager specialized in Finance - General/Cost Accounting or equivalent.
  • Proficient in Accounting Software (experience in  Biztrack) and Payroll software (Sage UBS).  
  • Good interpersonal skills and team work, proactive engagement with other function departments to ensure effectiveness of work.
  • Good written and verbal communication in English and Malay
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Meticulous, firm, diplomatic, resourceful and committed.
  • Working location :  Ampang Jaya
