Job Description

As Global Insight and Strategy Integration Consultant (the successful candidate will provide insight and marketing strategy support to fuel and retail divisions bring together different data sources both internal such as transaction and loyalty card data through to external trackers and other research projects. The candidate will work with global category team leads, local marketing and category managers, insight and analytics professional across Shell to develop richer insights on our customer segments that helps us unlock further growth. This role is part of the Global Insight Team based in London and reports to the Global Insight and Strategy Integration Manager.

Main activities:
  • Work with Global Insight team/managers, CRM, Loyalty, Data Insights teams to extract and integrate insights from their data sources
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the business based on insights from different sources
  • Provide recommendations to improve research studies and data for better return on investment
  • Manage internal stakeholder needs and generate commercially minded insights/opportunities
The position doesn't manage a team directly but would be expected to lead virtual teams in the business. These virtual teams could be from a variety of different countries as well as different skill sets.

The position will report to the Strategy and Insight Integration Manager based in Shell Centre London. The manager will provide broad direction and priorities for this person to work to. It is expected this person will have a high level of personal initiative and accountability. It is not expected their works will be quality checked and supervised closely rather they will be expected to work to a series of objectives and manage their own time and priorities towards achieving those objectives.

This is a challenging role with complexity coming from several sources:

Firstly, the nature is the work itself. Integrating different data sources to produce a coherent and insightful output is a complex. Often these data sources are not designed to go together and will need to be manipulated or interpreted differently to ensure cohesion and consistency.

Secondly, managing multiple stakeholders- this role encounters multiple stakeholders with different needs. It covers subjects as diverse as analysis on brand positioning to gap analysis on convenience retail product portfolios.

Thirdly, multiple cultures- as a global role it is expected this person will be comfortable working across a variety of different international businesses and culture working across Europe, North America and Asia. An appreciation of different working styles and approaches is expected

Requirements

  • Track record of developing marketing and or category strategies in a direct to consumer business ideally FMCG or Retail or a consultancy specialising in that sector
  • International marketing and/or business experience- candidate should demonstrate track record of working in multicultural and international environment
  • Track record of simplifying complex analysis from multiple sources, synthesizing it and making clear recommendations to lead to actions
  • Business leader with exposure to senior management with ability to influence others, able to foster necessary relationships with agencies and senior internal stakeholders
  • Strong project management and interpersonal skills
  • Experienced in strategic marketing both in terms of process and content including forecasting, market sizing, opportunity generation, competitor and market analysis
  • Deep knowledge of market research and methodologies, techniques and tools.
  • Knowledge of analytic techniques such as segmentation, regression, TURF etc.
  • Previous experience of working within an insights team, category/brand management, strategy, analytics or marketing science team. This could have been either directly at a retailer
  • 10 years' experience
  • Self-starter but ability to work collaboratively and autonomously when needed.
