Role Summary/Purpose

As a member of a project execution team, the Design Engineer, DE, assists the Lead Civil Engineer when an order of a Gas Turbine Power Plant has been signed and the order release meeting from the commercial team is taking place. The DE works on the Power Plant Projects, supervises the engineering consultants that supply detailed engineering, collaborates in teamwork with all engineering disciplines, project management, subcontractors and construction site.

Essential Responsibilities

Within the Civil Engineering department in Belfort, using GE processes & tools in an international context, you will :
  • Work within a multi-discipline team executing turnkey contracts for gas turbine based power stations.
  • Participate in building up sub-contracts and in the negotiations.
  • Co-ordinate the engineering between different GE departments, external engineering offices and the construction site.
  • Follow up the on the design and site work time schedules.
  • Check monthly valuations from sub-contractors and follow up the budget and report.
  • Prepare technical specifications for purchasing purposes
  • Respond rapidly to technical questions from internal and external clients.
  • Short business trips abroad are required from time to time.
When not working one Self-Implemented Turnkey Projects:
  • Support Partners and Clients for equipment only and other types of extended scope projects.
  • Provide engineering reviews and recommendations.
  • Give support to sales projects (ITO)
  • Revise and update technical documentation
  • Participate in the development of new standards and processes in the aim of continuous improvements and optimal ratio between cost, quality and delay.
Qualifications/Requirements

  • A Master Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years engineering experience in design technical office.
  • Knowledge in reinforced concrete and structural steel design.
  • Good knowledge of structural dynamic and seismic design.
  • Sufficient knowledge in Geotechnical issues including deep foundations.
Desired Characteristics

  • A back ground from heavy construction industry and a general knowledge of power plants or petrochemical installations will be preferred.
  • Awareness of the international codes and standards like Euro code, BS, ISO, ACI, ASTM, IBC, AISC and UBC.
