Job Description

The Vice President-Audio Design Services will be based in Batu Kawan, Penang. Flex is seeking a strong leader to lead Audio Design centers in Taipei Taiwan and Penang Malaysia. This role is part of the Integrated Solutions CTO team which leads the company’s audio product development operations for our Asian Design Centers. This role will engage with some of the biggest companies in consumer electronics and will report directly to the CTO of Flex Integrated Solutions. This role must have broad technical and operational expertise and leadership skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships across the organization.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…
  • Manage development of internal reference designs and integration of leading-edge technologies from our key partners
  • Focus on the structuring and operation of the Asian product development engineering function as a cohesive unit, day-to-day management of simultaneous projects, delivering designs to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints, and the fostering of innovative solutions to customer needs
  • Cultivate strong relationships with the sales and finance teams to capture new business opportunities
  • Guide and direct your teams to work cross-functionally to scope work, quote development costs, allocate resources, assess technology, define system architectures, and plan and execute the product development lifecycle
  • Interact and collaborate with our customer’s engineering teams to ensure successful execution and guide the transition of projects into our manufacturing sites
  • Serve as a key member of the management team that sets the company’s strategic direction
  • Develop strategic planning for the direction and control of product development activities
  • Assure that department achieves objectives and project completion within budget and time frame
  • Be a student of current industry trends, ensuring that the company maintains and expands its technology leadership position
  • Assure that product is designed for specific needs, but with wider applications in mind
  • Ensure that product development is focused on meeting and exceeding the customer requirements
  • Bring a proven customer interface and experience to define complex and new business arrangements with technology providers, suppliers and customers, directly leading technical product teams and successfully working in a matrix organization to convert the value of the COE deliverables into new segment businesses
Leadership:
  • Ensure that every function in the product development organization is led by a unified and cohesive vision and shared priorities
  • Develop an organizational bridge between the Taipei and Penang audio design centers and collaborate with Flex’s auxiliary worldwide design centers
  • Consistently raise the bar and build a world class product development organization
  • Identify talent gaps and engage in the interviewing, recruitment, hiring, and mentoring of key product development personnel
  • Motivate staff and provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project management, recognizing the role as that of both manager and support resource/mentor
  • Build trusting relationships and inspire others through exemplary leadership behavior
Execution & Technical:
  • Ensure that product development resources are optimally utilized in line with overall business strategy and priorities
  • Oversee product pipelines and development efforts and determine priorities to avoid conflicts
  • Build technical and process excellence in each key area of product development
  • Establish governance, policies, processes, and communication to deliver reliable products within cost targets and with schedule predictability
  • Establish and enforce product development methodologies and procedures for architecting, designing, prototyping, and validating to ensure the best solution for the customer
  • Ensure continuous improvement in the product development process
  • Ensure relevant IP is protected during the development process
  • Ensure smooth NPI transition into manufacturing sites
  • Focus on next-generation audio technologies, strategies, platforms, products, features, capabilities, and experiences
  • Work closely with technology and development partners
  • Enable our customers to launch new differentiated products faster
  • Manage a wide variety of engineering disciplines, electrical, mechanical, acoustic, RF, and software
  • Maintain quality standards with best practice testing methodologies and product validation
Here is some of what you’ll need (required)…
  • 10-20 years of experience in product development, with 5+ years in senior management of product development
  • Proven track record of leading growth efforts and managing several teams in specific technical disciplines in the consumer electronics industry
  • Experience with and strong understanding of both hardware and software development best practices and methodologies
  • Experience with and strong understanding of manufacturing operations
  • Experience managing large teams in multiple locations
  • Experience recruiting, building, and managing high performance multi-disciplined teams
  • Knowledge of intellectual property rights and protection
  • Extensive experience with change management
  • Excellent business acumen, problem solving, negotiating skills, and analytical thinking
  • Full understanding of a P&L
  • Ability to create new platforms that incorporate power management, wireless protocols (BT, Wi-Fi, NFC, etc.), DSP, and sensors
  • Extensive experience of designing and delivering smart speakers, headsets, and sound bars to well-known high-end market brands
  • Deep working knowledge of audio technologies, echo and noise cancellation, beam forming, microphone arrays, transducers, and amplifiers
  • Electrical analog/digital/system hardware design fundamentals, specifically SoC and MCU based systems
  • Hands on management style with intense attention to technical and scheduling details
  • Experience with inter-device communication protocols such as USB, Ethernet, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, I2C, I2S, TDM, SPI, MIPI
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with external technology partners
  • Ability to understand product concepts and requirements and create technical design specifications and test plans
  • Experience with audio, DSP, and wireless systems
  • Experience in architecting and implementing firmware for embedded devices
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to concisely explain complex issues to non-experts
  • Experience in the application of power management for small form factor designs
  • Experience with mechanical design of consumer products
