Specify the educational background, qualifications and experience that would typically be required to perform your job fully and effectively. 

·         Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT or related field

·         Certification in three or more storage/backup technologies

o    NetApps Data Ontap 7.3 (or higher version) Fundamentals

o    CIFS/NFS Administration on Data ONTAP 7.3 (or higher version)

o    NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA NS0-154)

o    NetApp Data ONTAP Cluster-Mode Administrator (NCDA NS0-156)

o    NetApp Certified SAN Implementation Engineer (NCIE-SAN NS0-502)

o    Hitachi Data Systems Storage Foundations – Enterprise Certification (HH0-110)

o    Hitachi Data Systems Certified Implementer

o    Hitachi Certified Enterprise Administrator

o    SNIA Storage Certified Professional (S10-101)

o    CommVault Certified Support

o    Symantec Certified Specialist

·         Other certifications

o    ITILv3 Foundation

o    Project Management Professional (optional)



Required Technical Skills

·         More than 5 years of storage and backup solutions hands on experience with minimum 5 years of hands on experience in planning and implementing migration/decommission and asset life cycle related projects.

·         Demonstrated experience in design, engineering, implementing and supporting Enterprise Storage technology and solutions: SAN/NAS from the major vendors such as Netapps, Hitachi, EMC, Cisco, Brocade etc.

·         Ability to manage large enterprise storage environment (more than 2 Petabyte of storage).

·         Demonstrated strong technical knowledge and hand-on skill sets in

o    Storage management and provisioning: HDVM, HCS, DFM, Cisco/Brocade Fabric/Device Manager and Storage Navigator

o    Replications and migration: HTSM, UVM, Shadow Image, Thin Image, True Copy, Snapmirror, NDMP copy

o    Storage virtualization and externalization: Storage Navigator/Element Manager

o    Performance tuning and reporting: Tuning Manager, DFM

o    NAS backup: Snapvault, Snapshot

·         Strong knowledge of protocols including NFS, CIFS, iSCSI, FC, TCP/IP, SNMP, FTP, HTTP.

·         Strong knowledge of RAID, Fiber Channel, SCSI, DLT, LTO.

·         Strong knowledge of storage administration and the concepts of file systems, disk partitions, mounts, quotas, mirroring, storage sizing, performance and high availability with relevant hands on experience.

·         Experience with Data ONTAP fundamentals.

·         Ability to handle reporting tools from different storage and backup technologies – HDvM, DFM and Commvault and other reports.

·         In-depth knowledge in and/or  hands on experience in Commvault or Symantec NetBackup backup and recovery; and backup migration of Windows, Microsoft SQL and Exchange, Oracle, SAP and SharePoint.

·         Strong knowledge in virtualisation technologies such as VMWare or HyperV.

·         Knowledge of information availability architecture methodologies, industry best practices and generally accepted information availability principles.

 Desired Technical & Behavioral Skills

·         In-depth knowledge of Windows, UNIX and/or Network System Administration skills

o    Windows:  Good knowledge of the various versions of windows platforms.  Understand share and NTFS security concepts.

o    UNIX:  Good knowledge of Linux, AIX and/or System V Unix system administration concepts including disk and network administration, NFS and NIS/NIS+ administration

o    Networking:  Knowledge of Ethernet, IP, DNS and NIS associated daemons.

·         Excellent capabilities to review customers’ existing configurations and migration/decommission procedures and make recommendations to improve migration/decommission process and operational efficiency including automation, where possible.

·         Excellent listening, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

·         Excellent technical writing and presentation skills.

·         Statistical analysis experience.

·         Independent and inquisitive.

·         Thinking out of the box & positive working attitude.

·         Additional related capabilities include, but are not limited to:

o    Capacity planning, management and analysis

o    Advanced Provisioning skills (including Thin Provisioning)

o    Advanced troubleshooting skills

o    Share information and promote effective communication among peers and clients.

o    Write comprehensive documentation.

o    Good in the development of Backup strategy and managing backups

o    Change Management and Release Management roles

o    Requirements analysis and scope generation based upon the technical details of the customer's environment.

o    Anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve.

o    Change oriented - proactively generates process improvements; supports and drives change, and confronts difficult circumstances in creative ways.

o    Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt
