Purpose of Role

To provide high-quality English language support to beginner and early-stage English learners, developing their foundational language skills and enabling successful integration into the mainstream curriculum within an inclusive international school environment.

NEP Teacher

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Deliver engaging and structured English language lessons tailored for beginners or early English learners.
  • Design and implement lessons that focus on vocabulary building, basic grammar, sentence structure, and functional language.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of multilingual learners.
  • Liaise with subject teachers - particularly in Science and Math - to integrate relevant content into language lessons.
  • Assess students' language proficiency using appropriate tools and frameworks.
  • Provide regular feedback to students, parents, and relevant staff on progress.
  • Maintain a significant teaching commitment, with a teaching load of approximately 22 to 25 periods per week.

Curriculum & Planning

  • Develop and update the NEP curriculum in alignment with school and international standards.
  • Integrate language learning with cross-curricular themes where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with mainstream teachers to support students’ transition into subject-specific classes.

Pastoral & Inclusion Support

  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment.
  • Support the emotional and social adjustment of students who may be new to the country, school, or language.
  • Work closely with pastoral teams and parents to ensure holistic support for students.

Assessment & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievement.
  • Contribute to student reports and attend parent-teacher meetings.
  • Monitor and identify students who are ready to transition to mainstream classes.

Professional Development

  • Stay updated on best practices in teaching English as an additional language.
  • Attend and contribute to departmental meetings and school-wide training.
  • Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs) and external workshops as needed.
